Developer Stratosphere Games is adding another title to its game-creating resume withThe Desolation, a new isometric looter shooter with RPG elements to launch in early 2024. Stratosphere Games has previously worked on several titles before introducingThe Desolation.Stratosphere’s other games includeHomeworld MobileandDawn of Ages, both of which are accessible through mobile devices. Now, the team is moving onto a bigger project after obtaining investments from Riot Games, 1Up Ventures, and Skycatcher back in August 2022. The investments and grant helped to supplement the development ofThe Desolation, which has been described as a post-apocalyptic sci-fi world that can be played across multiple platforms. Instead of merely resorting tomobile devices, the company has worked to bring forth a cross-platform IP that can be experienced on mobile and PC.The Desolationtakes place in the year 2140, and humanity has expanded itself across the stars. However, an alien threat soon emerges in the form of “The Shade,” forcing humans to come together to eliminate the intergalactic race. The gameplay is expressed through an isometric point-of-view as players loot and shoot their way through procedurally generated areas.
The Desolationfocuses on combining its looter shooter approach with RPG features that can encourage players to explore the game’s combat roles; anywhere from a Support class to being a Tank, the choice is up to them. Additionally, the Early Access trailer forThe Desolationquickly showcases some of the explosive weapons that players can equip. The trailer also reveals the game’s Founder Sale that is going on now.
Footage from the trailer presents gameplay that is similar to that ofDiablo’s isometric role-playing action, as the players can see where their enemies are coming from on the battlefield. Demonic hordes of enemies can come from any direction, encouraging teammates to coordinate with one another. “Your team is your greatest weapon,” the trailer informs.
WithThe Desolationlaunching on Steam for Early Access gameplay sometime in the first half of 2024, players can potentially grab a copy of the game in a giveaway. On November 20, players can joinThe Desolation’s official Discord server to register on the Open Loot page. Only 1,000 players will be able to get their hands on the game with the giveaway. This will give interested gamers a chance to explore the game during itsearly access developmentbefore it can fully release in 2024 for mobile and PC platforms.
