However, the young Hero has not yet had the opportunity to take these newfound powers for a test run before Lady Nagant paints him into a corner with her quirky bullets and, as to be expected, Deku chooses to fight instead of flee.

Despite being warned against it, Deku unleashes Fa Jin for the very first time in the midst of battle with Lady Nagant inSeason 6, episode 21, taking the “learn as you go” sentiment to heart. The Third User whispers words of wisdom into the Ninth’s ear; however, he quickly realizes that Izuku has already calculated a sound strategy for Fa Jin’s versatile capabilities.

Fa Jin’s Mechanics

The Third User’s Quirk facilitates the storage of kinetic energy gathered during its activation, which can be released at the most opportune moment as an efficient power boost. While it likely affects other body parts too,Izuku focuses Fa Jin’s power to his legs(as these are less fragile than his arms, which have suffered enough abuse already!) He then uses the energy reserves to amplify his velocity and strength even further, enabling him to surpass the speed of one of Lady Nagant’s missiles.

By a stroke of genius, Deku manages to build up kinetic energy in his legs even while they are seemingly “useless” as heswings through the air with Blackwhip, by simply bending and flexing his leg muscles while dodging oncoming attacks. These subtle movements are enough to power Fa Jin’s batteries without alerting the enemy of the secret weapon, which in turn makes it almost impossible to predict the Hero’s next move and set up a counterattack in time.

Moreover, Deku can control how much energy is released with each attack, guaranteeing that he will always have at least two “bullets” in the barrel by only releasing one leg’s worth of fuel at a time. He eloquently displays this by dashing off to rescue Overhaul and then making a sudden U-turn to dart straight back to Nagant’s side, before she has even had time to process what has happened.

Fa Jin’s Complimentary Quirks

Not only does Izuku learn how to use Fa Jin like a natural on his first attempt, but he is already playing around with combo moves by consideringOne For All’s other Quirks. His first fusion technique is not terribly successful, as he overloads his system by trying to take on too much at once by activating One For All 45%, Danger Sense, Smokescreen, Blackwhip, Float, and Fa Jin in quick succession. Unfortunately, Deku spreads himself too thin and struggles to gain the upper hand, while his mind is likely reeling from the stress of trying to wield so many different powers simultaneously.

Things get a lot less muddy when Deku tones things down a bit with a more streamlined strategy, that primarily focuses on his agility. And thus,Faux 100%is born; after combiningFa Jin with Blackwhip’s natural momentum, and only 45% of One For All,Izuku can now givea fully charged All Mighta run for his money. But wait, there’s more! The child prodigy adds to his newly established attack by incorporating his formidable ax-kicking Ultimate Move,Manchester Smash, the result of which is potent enough to potentially take out any unsuspecting, or even an apprehensive, enemy.

Deku is likely to experiment with a few other combo moves; however, due to the nature of this new Quirk, it is safe to say that movement-orientated strategies are his best bet, well, movingforward.Blackwhiphas already proven to complement Fa Jin quite seamlessly (with even more potential in store,) whileFloathas its own advantages when merged with enhanced speeds. The yet-to-be-seen Second User’s Quirk,Gearshiftspices things up significantly by allowing Deku to change his trajectory at will, while also providing its own bolt of bonus speed in the process.

Deku’s Dazzling Deftness

The fact that Deku is even willing to attempt learninga new Quirk mid-battle seems absurd, but this wouldn’t be the first time the youngster has pushed boundaries. Facing the top marksman in all of Japan must be a daunting task at the best of times, and yet he refuses to give Lady Nagant the upper hand and analyses her every move from the moment she makes her presence known. Being the Ninth User, Deku likely has a vague understanding of Fa Jin’s capabilities (either through conversation with Past Users or as inherent common knowledge shared through One For All) and, realizes that running around to build up kinetic energy will likely get him killed, Deku creates other opportunities for himself to facilitate this movement requirement.

By utilizing Blackwhips innate centrifugal force and less than half ofOne For All’s potential power,Deku can essentially mimic the potency ofOne For All 100%, without completely destroying his body in the process. The only other way he has been able to achieve this in the past is with little Eri’s help (who obviously shouldn’t join Deku on the battlefield if it can be helped), or by sacrificing vital body parts, like his poor arms. And this is all with only 45% of One For All’s capacity; imagine what Deku will be capable of when he raises the stakes, even slightly!
