Death is an integral theme throughout the narrative ofMushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, with the series' main storyline being catalyzed by the death of its protagonist. In the time since its premiere, the anime adaptation of Rifujin na Magonote’s light novel series has garnered acclaim while sparking a considerable deal of controversy for some of the moreunsavory personality traits of its main character, as well as some of the world-building elements pertaining to its medieval setting.

There have been a number of characters who have met their end in both Season 1 and Season 2 ofMushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. While some deaths had a massive bearing on the main story, others had less of an impact. At present there have been only a handful of named character deaths among the main and supporting cast, many of which were quite closely tied to the Teleport Incident which set upRudeus' journey back homefrom the Demon Continent. In this vein, here is the list of confirmed deaths that have occurred in the anime series so far, from the most recent ones to those that took place earlier on in the narrative.

Paul Greyrat Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation

Updated July 07, 2025 by Jerry Elengical:The initial story arcs of Mushoku Tensei Season 2 adopted a slice-of-life tone with Rudeus' entry into the Ranoa Magic Academy, which was a huge departure from the action-filled second half of Season 1.

Whereas the first few episodes of Season 2 had some brutal battles and deaths during Rudeus' days as an adventurer in the Northern lands, the rest of it was relatively peaceful, until the start of the Labyrinth Arc. In this final segment of Season 2, Rudeus journeys to the Begaritt Continent to aid his father in rescuing Zenith, culminating in a tense and tragic final battle against the hydra.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Episode #46

As one of the most prominent figures in Rudeus' life, Paul Greyrat played a huge role in his son’s growth, despite his many shortcomings as a father. Although his appearances inMushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnationwere brief after the Teleport Incident, his development as a character was phenomenal when compared to the kind of person he was at the start of the series.

After spending years searching for his wife, Zenith, who was transported to an unknown location in the Teleport Incident, Paul finally managed to locate her within the Teleportation Labyrinth in the Begaritt Continent. However, the task of bringing her back home was not as simple as it appeared, as his party had to fend off a hydra to rescue her. Unfortunately,Paul was killed by the beastwhile trying to save Rudeus' life, although in his final moments, he was able to see that his son had succeeded in saving Zenith.

Derrick Redbat Mushoku Tensei

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Episode #26

A healer affiliated with the party Counter Arrow, Mimir was Rudeus' comrade on several quests during his time in Rosenburg, located in the Northern Regions of the Central Continent. He accompanied the party, who allied with Rudeus during their quest to collect Snow Drake scales in the Gargau ruins, where theyfirst encountered Soldat Hecklerand his party Stepped Leader.

After surviving this encounter, Counter Arrow embarked on another quest in the Trier Forest, where Mimir met his end at the hands of a herd of Snow Buffaloes. At the same time, Sara, another member of the party was captured, and the remaining members of Counter Arrow were forced to retreat due to a blizzard. On hearing this, Rudeus set out on his own and recovered Mimir’s remains, saved Sara, and defeated the Snow Buffaloes.

Roman Mushoku Tensei

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Episode #24

An advanced rank magicianand the former guardianof Princess Ariel Anemoi Asura, Derrick Redbat was in awe of Ariel’s charisma and constantly implored her to fight for the throne of the Asura Kingdom. He hailed from a middle-class noble family and was shrewd but also pragmatic in his decision-making.

Derrick’s exemplary grades at the Asura Magic Academy were the main reason behind his appointment as Ariel’s guardian, and he used this post to constantly lecture both Ariel and her knight Luke Notos Greyrat on kingship. Unfortunately, Derrick had to give his life to save Ariel from a boar that appeared at the Asura Palace during theTeleport Incident— an event that also brought Sylphiette to the palace, leading her to meet both Ariel and Luke.

Gablin Mushoku Tensei

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Episode #10

An adventurer based out of Rikarisu City in the Demon Continent, Roman stumbled upon the Adventure Guild party P-Hunter, who was famed for taking on quests for lost pets. In actuality, they abducted pets that they encountered and then claimed the reward for “finding” them once a listing for a job to find them was put up.

Roman became aware of this scheme and blackmailed Jalil and Vizquel, the two members of the party, into giving him a cut of their earnings for doing none of the work. Once Rudeus and Dead End came to know of this arrangement, they forced the party to halt their operation. However, when Roman attempted to flee, he was swiftlystruck down and killed by Ruijerd.

Blaze Mushoku Tensei

Little is known about Gablin as hiscontribution to the main storylineis quite minimal. He was an adventurer from the Demon Continent who was a member of the party known as the Tokurabu Village Troughs. Possessing a unique appearance that was fairly bird-like, Gablin had a beak for a mouth and was covered in feathers.

During Dead End’s time in Rikarisu City, the trio went on a mission where they encountered Gablin and his party. When ambushed by a cohort of monsters, Gablin tragically met his end while the remaining members of his party were saved by Dead End.

Sauros Boreas Greyrat Mushoku Tensei

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Episode #11

Formerly part of the Rikarisu Gang which included Nokopara, Dale, and a young Roxy Migurdia, Blaze was an adventurer from the Demon Continent who had formed his own partyby the start of Rudeus' journeyto Rikarisu City. Belonging to the Demon race, he had a pig-like face with tusks.

After setting out on a quest with his party, Blaze ran into a Red-Fang Cobra and was slain by the beast in the ensuing conflict. Shortly afterward, the members of Dead End managed to defeat the beast, but they were too late to save Blaze from his untimely end.

Hilda Boreas Greyrat Mushoku Tensei

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Episode #14

The ruler of the Fittoa Region, father of Philip, and grandfather of Eris, Sauros Boreas Greyrat was a stern and outspoken man who tended to speak his mind without any concern for who was listening. As the head of the Boreas Greyrat household, he held great authority over theFittoa Region and the Citadel of Roawhere he resided.

He had a very close relationship with his granddaughter, and many of his more aggressive qualities ended up rubbing off on Eris. In the aftermath of the Teleport Incident, Sauros was unjustly blamed and executed, bringing his role in the story to a sorrowful end.

Philip Boreas Greyrat Mushoku Tensei

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Episode #8

The matriarch of the Boreas Greyrat household, wife of Philip, and mother of Eris, Hilda was initially quite cold to Rudeus when he first arrived to tutor Eris in the Citadel of Roa within the Fittoa Region of the Asura Kingdom. Her animosity to Rudeus was the resultof his relation to Paul, whose side of the family was responsible for taking away two of her sons.

Over time, her disdain for Rudeus' presence changed once she saw the positive effect he had on her daughter Eris. Sadly, she was transported to a dangerous location in the Teleport Incident alongside her husband Philip, and she was found dead by Ghislaine.

Laws Sylphiette Mushoku Tensei

Hilda’s husband, the father of Eris, and mayor of the Citadel of Roa, Philip Boreas Greyrat was the one who initially allowed Rudeus to tutor Eris. A kind and relaxed individual, Philip was also instrumental in hiring Paul as a low-ranking knight in Buena Village, which allowed him to provide for his wife Zenith,and young son Rudeus, after the disbandment of his Adventure Guild party Fangs of the Black Wolf.

Always carrying himself with an air of elegance and playfulness, Philip was responsible for Rudeus' welfare while he served as Eris' tutor. However, he was also transported to a dangerous region during the Teleport Incident, where he met his end alongside his wife.

The son of Elinalise Dragonroad and a hunter who belonged to Buena Village, Laws was the father of Sylphiette and his physicalappearance bore a great many similaritiesto that of his daughter, save for her bright green hair. Part elf, he had fairly pointed ears which were a tad bit shorter than Sylphy’s.

From his introduction, it was evident that he cared deeply about his daughter and her struggles when she was initially bullied by the boys of the village. He was also said to be a capable hunter who assisted Paul in his endeavors to exterminate monsters in proximity to the village.
