AfterMortal Kombat 11Director Ed Boon posted a gif of a cartoon hand rolling ones with a pair of dice on Twitter Wednesday, rumors flew that he was teasing the addition ofG.I. Joe’s Snake Eyes or a Dimitri Vegas skin for Sub-Zero as future DLC. While the guess is not totally unfounded givenBoon’s history of trolling fans, NetherRealm Studios' Creative Director confirmed today he was simply posting about attending the 2020 D.I.C.E. Summit in Las Vegas.
The Design Innovate Communicate Entertain (D.I.C.E.) Summit is an annual event hosted by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences where members of the video game industry gather to attend conferences, take part in events like go-kart and poker tournaments, and present awards to AAA and indie games. This yearControl,Death Stranding, andUntitled Goose Gameare among the nominees forGame of the Year at the D.I.C.E. Awards.

Those awards are being presented tonight between 8:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. PST, and will be followed by an after-party to close out the three-day Summit according to its online schedule. Even if it was tantalizing to seeMortal Kombat 11Director Boon’s Tweet as some 3D chess-level tease for fans, the text saying “Vegas” above his gif was probably a good indication to it being an innocuous message.
The popular fighting gameMortal Kombat 11has been in the news for its DLC recently, as D.C. Comics’Joker was released as a fighterthis month. Players can expect to learn more about Spawn, a character from Image Comics created by Todd McFarlane who is coming to wrap up the game’s first Kombat Pack, at the esports championship event Final Kombat 2020 on March 8.
MK11received an additional amount of attention when it was found to not be among other fighting games likeSuper Smash Bros. UltimateandTekken 7inthe lineup for EVO 2020. The snub was surprising to many considering the game was only released in 2019 and has continually added DLC since then.
Even without its presence at EVO, fans of the gruesome fighting game will keep playing it to discover all thebrutalities characters like Jokerare capable of dishing out. As long as they are doing that, Boon’s social media will constantly be under scrutiny — whether the leads it gives are false positives or not.
Mortal Kombat 11is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
