Summary

Mortal Kombat 1has revealed a new skin for Sub-Zero, with the costume being based on his classic appearance in the 1995Mortal Kombatfilm.Mortal Kombat 1’s first Kombat Pack includes six DLC characters, featuring a mix of returning characters like Ermac and guest characters like Omni-Man and Homelander. The final returning character of the Kombat Pack is Takeda Takahashi, a beloved fan favorite who is returning fromMortal Kombat X.

Takeda Takahashi will be added toMortal Kombat 1on July 23, with this being his second playable appearance in a mainline game sinceMortal Kombat X. Formerly the son of the blind swordsman Kenshi, Takeda was inducted into Scorpion’s Shirai Ryu clan, and used a mixture of ninja-styled tools and modern technology. The new version of Takeda introduced inMortal Kombat 1revamps his backstory, but keeps most of his proficiency with the Shirai Ryu’s fighting style and whip weapons. Takeda was recently the focus of a KombatKast livestream, which showcased his abilities, but NetherRealm Studios had one last surprise before the stream was over: a quick showcase of Takeda fighting Sub-Zero, with the latter wearing a new costume.

The costume shown during the livestream is based on Sub-Zero’s appearance inthe 1995Mortal Kombatfilm, where the character is wearing a black bodysuit with blue padding and an intimidating mask. While the iconic ice ninja didn’t speak much in the original film, this skin uses the same lines as the base game’s Sub-Zero/Bi-Han. While theKombatKast streamdoesn’t state it outright, it’s very likely this skin will be added in the next balance update forMortal Kombat 1on July 23, or sometime after.
