Hidden in the apartments is a secret that haunts fans as they search for themouse traps needed for the famed Easter Egg. Only by listening carefully can fans hear a haunting voice in the background. Those who have heard it argue whether it is a girl or boy, but almost everyone agrees that the voice is that of a small child.

Research into these voices was inspired by a post on Reddit where severalModern Warfarefans claimed to hear a ghost in the buildings surroundingthe Cheshire Park Cafe. The study began by booting up the game and heading into the suspected “haunted locations.” After visiting several buildings, the voice could easily be heard inside both of the apartments. In one, interested fans will have to stand on the dirty mattress and try to hear past the buzzing of flies. In the second location, players only have to stand in the brightly lit room filled with lamps. The best spot is on the bed where it can clearly be heard almost directly above.
After waiting several minutes the first sound of theModern Warfarevoicecould be heard. Though unclear, it is clearly one syllable and sounds like it could start with the letter “D.” The second appearance happens roughly 20 seconds later where three distinct words clearly can be heard. Many players have described this second set as a “child laughing,” but others dispute this based on the pattern.
The third section of voice happens within five seconds and is a single word that is very subtle. After this, there is a click, thud, and almost the sound of footsteps walking away. The clarity of the entire section depends on where the player stands in the room. After roughly three to five minutes, the entire pattern repeats again almost on the same schedule as the passing train.
If this is the voice of a child it would fit with theModern Warfarepied piper themelocated on this map. In the original story, the piper stole all the children in response to the village not paying him for his services. This could be a child that was taken, or maybe its a parent hiding a small infant. Not much is known about this little detail, but many fans have found it spooky, unsettling, and in some cases “freaky.”
