TheXbox 360has a special place in the hearts of many gamers. Despite some technical issues, it boasted a respectable first-party lineup andsold over 85 million units worldwide. However, time marches on, and most gamers probably expected Microsoft was done with the console after officially discontinuing it in 2016.
However, that is not entirely the case, as theXbox 360evidently still receives official support. Microsoft just announced a new patch in response to bug reports from a small number of players.

Xbox’s Eden Marie recently tweeted out the announcement of a new service fixfor the Xbox 360. According to the tweet, two Xbox 360 players reported that Pins, the system for players' favorited games, and apps, were no longer working on the console. Microsoft likely could have ignored this issue without much pushback but instead rolled out a quick fix for the problem. Marie announced the new patch at 11:19 last night and expects the problem to be resolved within 24 hours. However, she encouraged Xbox 360 players to contact her via Twitter if they encountered any further issues.
The glitch appears to have been a server-side issue instead of one with the Xbox 360’s operating system. This makes the patch much easier to roll out, explaining how Microsoft addressed the problem so soon after players reported it. Still, it’s surprising that Microsoft continues to support the 15-year-old console, especially considering it was after just two bug reports. While Microsoft is far from the perfect company, its customer service did a good job this time.
The Xbox 360 was not the most successful console in the seventh generation. It came in third behind the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3, which outsold the Xbox 360 by over 17 million and over 3 million units, respectively. Part of that may be due to the console’s reputation for unreliability. While later versions had fewer issues, technical problems likethe 360’s infamous Red Ring of Deathhurt early perceptions of the console.
Still, the 360 is home to many great games. These include successful first-party exclusives likeHalo 3andGears of War. Not to mention the third-party hits likeMass Effect,Skyrim,Fallout: New Vegas,andLeft 4 Dead. A lot of theXbox 360’slibrary is backward compatible with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and it obviously isn’t getting any new games. Still, it seems that some players haven’t moved on from the 15-year-old console. Fortunately, the latest path shows that Microsoft hasn’t forgotten about them.
