Konami confirms that its development team for theMetal Gear Solid 3remake will consist of its own staff and those at Virtuos. Earlier this week, Sony’s PlayStation Showcase revealed a number of exciting and new projects that will be coming to the console. This includes highly anticipated games likeSpider-Man 2andAlan Wake 2, complete with gameplay footage. One of the most surprising reveals of the presentation was the reveal ofMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of the seminal PS2 classic,Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.There were plenty of rumors regarding aMetal Gear Solid 3remake since at least 2021, with many leaks and other details pointing towards its development. The PlayStation showcase finally confirmed to fans that Konami was indeed working on such a project and thatthe rumoredMGS3remake was real. What was shown at the event was a CG-only teaser trailer, which incorporated familiar elements of the classic game such as the jungle environment and Naked Snake himself. After the game’s reveal, Konami has confirmed who is working on this project.RELATED:Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Will Retain Original Voice CastThis statement was given to Ethan Gach of Kotaku on Twitter, who asked a Konami spokesperson who the development team for this remake was. This spokesperson confirmed that it will be some of Konami’s own development team working together with support from acclaimed porting studio Virtuosi. There was previously evidence for this last year, whereVirtuos’ official website had listed Konami as one of its clients.
Virtuos’ previous work includes the ports ofFinal Fantasy 10and10-2for PS3 and Vita, theNieR AutomataNintendo Switch port, theBatman: Return to Arkhamport to PS4, and even assisting with theDemon’s Soulsremake for PS5. WithVirtuos’ track record, it’s a strong profile to help Konami in remakingMGS3.
Alongside theMGS3remake,Konami also announced theMetal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 1on several platforms, including PS5. This collection will contain not only the first threeMetal Gear Solidtitles, but also the first two classic MSX games as well. According to a recent PlayStation Store listing, these remasters ofMGS2andMGS3are based on theHD Collectionversions. These were previously developed by Bluepoint Games for the PS3 and Xbox 360 ports. At this time it’s unknown if Bluepoint is assisting with this collection or if Virtuos was contracted to help bring the former’s work to these new platforms.
