Each Sunday Valve releases a list of theten best-selling games on Steam, as measured by revenue. May 16’s top-ten list delivers an unsurprisingly tumultuous shift from previous weeks due to the continued success of Capcom’sResident Evil Village, but also two exciting new releases and pre-orders for upcoming titles. The biggest addition to this week’s list is the highly anticipatedMass Effect: Legendary Edition.
Number one on this week’s list isMass Effect: Legendary Edition, which launched this past Friday.Mass Effect: Legendary Editionbundles together the three originalMass Effectgames, making for a collection with hundreds of hours of sci-fi RPG action, and one of the biggest epic stories in video games. In the second and third position on this week’s list are a pair of listings forResident Evil Village. The standaloneResident Evil Villageis in second, but just behind that is a combo bundle featuring bothResident Evil VillageandResident Evil 7with all DLC available for each. The newest title in the popular horror franchise is perhaps one of the most-discussed games of the year, which makes it somewhat of a surprise that it wasn’t able to retain the top seller position from last week.
Another new game on the list isSubnautica: Below Zero, which takes the fifth spot just below the Valve Index VR Kit.Subnautica: Below Zerois a sequel to the 2018 underwater adventure game, and there are high expectations for the sequel after a lengthy Early Access period. In the seventh spot isHood: Outlaws and Legends, a PvPvE competitive game in which two teams of four fight over a guarded treasure mid-heist. It comes in just belowIt Takes Twoin sixth place, and aboveDOOM Eternalin eighth.
There are two other surprises on this week’s list. BothFinal Fantasy 14: Endwalker, the fantasy MMO’s upcoming expansion, andBiomutant, an open-world action game, made the list based on pre-orders alone. They’re in ninth and tenth place, respectively.
Looking toward next week’s list, it wouldn’t be surprising to see bothMass Effect: Legendary EditionandResident Evil Village’s continued success. Fans can likely also expect to seeBiomutantjump up the list as it goes on sale. As for new releases, thePC port ofDays Goneshould be worth watching, but Steam’s top-sellers list could include even more surprises.
