Marvel’s Spider-Man 2will surely bring in mechanics from the first two games in Insomniac’s series, but a lot can be learned from old games as well. For example, someMarvel’s Spider-Man 2players thinkSpider-Man: Web of Shadows’ wall combat could be a good addition to the game.
Released in 2008,Spider-Man: Web of Shadowshas become a bit of a cult classic. Made byCall of Dutydeveloper Treyarch, the game received mix reviews from critics due to its repetitiveness and a lack of polish. However, some gamers appreciate it for its strengths, such as a unique story that incorporates characters like Wolverine and Venom. Its combat system has also gotten some love from nostalgic fans in recent months.

While Spider-Man fans have already requested aerial combat like what is seen inWeb of Shadows, some players are now pushing for its other unique form of combat to be added. The 2008 game allowed players to fight on walls, something that continues to help it stand out from other games based on the wall-crawler. Recently, Reddit user IruyDovahkiin shared a video that compiles clips of Spidey beating down foes on the sides of buildings, asking theMarvel’s Spider-Manfan baseif the feature could come to the highly anticipated sequel.
While it remains to be seen ifInsomniac Gameswill add such a feature to Spidey’s arsenal, fans clearly have interest in the mechanic. Redditor FridoBandito4U points out that wall enemies would be needed for it to work, with Adorable-Bullfrog-30 making a good point about the Symbiote featuring in the sequel. With the alien goo able to infect humans, players could easily have adversaries that fight on the side of buildings. Further, given that it is the Marvel universe, enemies that have tech that let their feet stick to walls is possible. While FridoBandito4U does worry it could be disorienting, they also think it could be fun.
While other Redditors took the opportunity to make different requests forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, such as better stealth and the option to run down walls, many supported the suggestion for wall combat. Redditor al2606 points out that theDoc Ock boss fightfrom the original already took place on the side of a building, and while it was cinematic, some systems could already be in place for such a feature. Another player, hexenkesel, is “hoping” the feature will come since Insomniac dabbled with new movement abilities for enemies viaSpider-Man: Miles Morales’ Underground faction.
While official details aboutMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s gameplay are unlikely to come until later this year, fans can continue theorizing until then. Whether it benew traversal options for Spider-Manor additional ways for the hero to fight, players clearly have lots of ideas for his next game.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is scheduled to release in 2023 on PS5.
