Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is currently scheduled to release at some point in the fall, with a September release window seeming likely based on information from Venom’s voice actor Tony Todd. It is almost a guarantee now thatMarvel’s Spider-Man 2could featurecosmetic skins for Miles Morales fromAcross the Spider-Verse, and with Peter Parker’s costumed look making so many appearances in the movie already it would be neat to see the game take inspiration fromGod of War Ragnarokin making the character’s crossover appearances canon in both.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verserecently released a new trailer that used clips from its previous trailer to flesh out more of the plot. It seems like a lot is still obscured from audiences, such as the precise reasons for why certain characters are behaving the way they are. However, its spectacle as an animated movie is undeniable with hundreds of Spider-Men and tons of exciting dimensions to travel between. One of the more intriguing parts of the movie, though, has been how much it featuresMarvel’s Spider-Man’s distinctly costumed Spider-Man.

Kratos’ PlayStation All-Stars Appearance is Canon in God of War Ragnarok
Kratos has made his fair share of appearances in unrelated games in the past, but his role inPlayStation All-Stars Battle Royalewas perhaps the most obvious to include as a reference. Because so much ofGod of War Ragnarok’s optional collectible contentis rooted in PlayStation IPs, it only makes sense that an explicit nod to hisAll-Starsappearance would make the cut. Kratos is a first-party PlayStation mascot, which could have also been a deciding factor in him not dying during the events ofGod of War Ragnarok.
It is still odd regardless, though, since that would mean that Kratos went and participated in the battle royale tournament at some point in his rich, mythology-hopping history, but it is not a detail that is likely to be expanded upon in futureGod of Wargames. Either way, if Kratos’ character appearance in an unrelated game can be made canon, even through such a subtle and missable nod, then surely the explicit appearance ofMarvel’s Spider-Man’s Peter ParkerinSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Versecould be made canon in the upcoming game.
Spider-Man’s Spider-Verse Appearance Could Be Made Canon, Too
Marvel’s Spider-Man’s Peter Parker seems to have a fairly large presence inAcross the Spider-Verse, at least from what has been shown thus far from the Spider-Verse’s intricate lobby. The crossover between these two massiveSpider-Manentries is exciting for fans of both, and taking it a step further with an immersive explanation would makeMarvel’s Spider-Man 2all the more intriguing.
UnlessMarvel’s Spider-Man 2features an introduction to its own Spider-Verse, there would be some explaining to do to reasonably state how Peter would have already experienced the Spider-Verse. Like inGod of War Ragnarok,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2could reference this cameo before brushing it off, or Peter could say that he had a quick Spider-Verse trip in his eight years of crime-fighting beforeMarvel’s Spider-Mantook place.
It would be fun to see the same sort of canonical reference made between the two, especially withSpider-Man: Across the Spider-VerseandMarvel’s Spider-Man 2releasing in the same year. Otherwise, fans are hopeful that they could release only a few months apart from one another, and only time will tell how in-depth this collaboration is intended to be.
