Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix’sMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyincludes many real-life references and authentic product placements that root it in 70s and 80s nostalgia for fans. One of the first things that players see fromPeter Quill inMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, for example,is his choice of adidas sneaker in a first-person perspective from the teenager on his bed.

Indeed, skin cosmetics and attention tovisual fidelity excel inMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Peter’s adidas sneakers can later be worn as a dedicated cosmetic skin called Bad-Lord that simply superimposes the teenaged Peter’s outfit and hairstyle onto the adult Peter’s body and head. However, there is an authentic collaboration in the works between Marvel and the multinational footwear manufacturer that will soon let fans experience the sneaker in all its glory.

Marvel has announced its recent partnership with adidas resulting in a limited collection of six sneakers based upon the characters inMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. With a fun nod toMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyin particular, the blue-and-white Star-Lord sneakers are a nearly identical adaptation from the game, complete with Star-Lord’s own signature. Not only will Star-Lord be receiving a sneaker but Drax, Gamora, Groot, and Rocket will also be included in Marvel and adidas' Originals Collection.

Marvel’s Senior Director of Production, Eric Monacelli, expresses how adidas' Forum 84 Hi silhouette provided an “undeniable retro appeal” for teenaged Peter’s aesthetic. Likewise, adidas' red-and-black Forum Mid variant reflects Peter’s iconic jacket. While Peter receives two sneaker variants and the other Guardians only receive one each, they are all distinctly unique from one another and reflect adidas' diverse, modern footwear selection.

Drax’s Ozelia, Gamora’s ZX 2K Boost 2.0, Groot’s NMD R1, and Rocket’s ZX 1K Boost are all representative of thecolorfulMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxycharactersthey were designed for. James Lui, an adidas Senior Designer, states that inspiration for each character considered visual idiosyncracies such as “Groot’s earthy color palette” and “Drax’s unmistakable tattoos.”

Peter’s Forum 84 Hi’s may provide the closest likeness toMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’s own cosmetics, but the other Guardians' footwear provide personalized characterization that embody them fully. Marvel and adidas' Original Collection forMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxydoes not currently have a confirmed release besides a note that it will be arriving in “the first half of 2022.” Until then, fans can at least enjoy Star-Lord’s sneakers as they exist inMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
