If true, Hiddleston will be the second star of an MCU Disney+ show to appear inDoctor Strange 2. Elizabeth Olsen is already confirmed to be joining the sequel in a substantial role as Wanda Maximoff followingher Emmy-nominated turn inWandaVision. Benedict Cumberbatch will be returning as Strange along with stars of the firstDoctor Strangemovie, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Newcomer Xochitl Gomez will also appear as a new MCU character, America Chavez. The movie will be directed by Sam Raimi and written by Loki creator Michael Waldron along with Jade Halley Bartlett.

The last fans saw of Loki in the season 1 finale, the God of Mischief found himself stuck in a new timeline following Sylvie’s murder of He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors). That action promised to expose the timeline toalternate versions of the mysterious man, all of whom want to rule over time itself.  Plot details forDoctor Strange 2are being kept under wraps, but given the title, it will most likely deal with the ramifications of that final episode. It is also rumored that this storyline will play into the upcomingSpider-Man: No Way Homein which Doctor Strange will be appearing and is rumored to include previous Spider-Man actors, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

Given Wanda’s already confirmed involvement inDoctor Strange 2and the reports thatWandaVisionwould directly tie into the sequel, many fans thought that show would be the one to introduce the multiverse into the MCU. Few could have predicted Loki to be the most important of the Disney+ shows and one of the biggest game-changers for the entire MCU. To have Loki return inDoctor Strangeafter causing all this mayhem makes perfect sense. The question remains if Loki will find a way to escape the timeline he is stuck in or if Strange will have to do some timeline jumping to put everything right again. It’s an exciting development that confirms that Doctor Strange isthe MCU’s most important heroright now and that Loki’s time in the MCU is far from over.
