Many fans wondered whyInvincibleseason 2 has taken as long as it has to be released. Graphic novelist and showrunner Robert Kirkman explained how the COVID-19 pandemic got in the way of the show’s production, revealing how hard it was to get everything going again after all the shutdowns.
Kirkman comparedtheInvincibleseries productionto a factory, talking about how it was all up and working until it was shut down. Then, even when they started everything up, much like a factory, it took its sweet time before everything was at 100 percent capacity.

During an interview withPolygon, Kirkman explained how COVID-19 messed with theInvincibleproduction, even when it was over. “With COVID, there was a longer break in production than we wanted there to be. It took some time to rebuild the team,” Kirkman said. “The delays were really just COVID. Making a cartoon is like assembling a factory and letting it run. And because of COVID, we had to shut the factory down. So to get into season(s) 2 and 3, we had to rebuild the factory and get it up and running again, and that took a lot of time.“Invincibleseason 1 started airing episodes just as the COVID-19 vaccine had been made available to the public, thus leading to said metaphorical factory re-opening.
Of course, it’s not their fault everything had to shut down when COVID-19 spread like wildfire. Nor is it their fault that fans were extremely eager to see what would happen next following the traumatic events ofInvincibleseason 1’s ending, especially since the show followed it up with a montage of what was to come in season 2, revealing to audiences that if they thought what they saw in the first eight episodes was bad, wait until what season 2 has in store.Invinciblewas fresh, and the fans only wanted more.
Now that COVID-19 has been in the rearview mirror, fans can be assured that there shouldn’t be nearly as long of a hiatus between seasons 2 and 3. Better yet, the wait is coming closer and closer to the end, and now fans will finally get to see what happened to some of their favorite “heroes” in this universe, likewhat happened to Omni-Manafter he stopped his onslaught on Mark and the rest of the human race.
Better yet, fans will get acquainted with new characters in this universe that will surelybring some new material toInvinciblewhen they already had plenty to go off of. Naysayers may think that so much worldbuilding will be good for only so long, but knowing how well they did just that in season 1, fans should trust that those behind the show know what they’re doing.
