WithGrand Theft Auto 6being one of the most anticipated titles that the gaming industry has ever seen, it is no wonder that discourse surrounding the game has been as popular as it is. Be it from the wider franchise’s passionate community or from the high-profile and extensive leaks that the release recently received, many have been theorizing about what kind of experience the title will provide.
Of course,Grand Theft Auto 6will have to significantly build upon the experience of its 2013 predecessor, and one of the most obvious ways the game could do this would be via more interactive changes to its core narrative. The story mode ofGrand Theft Auto 5was entirely singleplayer, leaving an opportunity forGTA 6to boast an optional co-operative element for its own story. If this is to be the case for the anticipated title, then Rockstar would do well to also include a more competitive element of online play for its story mode, offering both sides of the experience.

The Potential For Co-op in Grand Theft Auto 6
With story mode co-operative play having never been done before in theGTAfranchise, it is clear how innovative and groundbreaking such a feature could be withinthe story ofGrand Theft Auto 6. While theGTAfranchise is now renowned for its multiple protagonist approach to singleplayer, the recent leaks regardingGTA 6indicate that the game will feature a more intimate dual protagonist approach, with this being the perfect dynamic for co-operative play.
This could allow players to optionally tackle the game’s story with a friend, each taking control of one ofthe game’s two rumored protagonistsin co-op play. While this would be a much appreciated optional addition toGrand Theft Auto 6, it would be remiss of Rockstar to not additionally include a more competitive and adversarial angle to story mode co-op, if it is to be included at all.

The Other Side of Grand Theft Auto 6’s Co-op
The multiplayer experience ofGrand Theft Autohas exploded in popularity in recent years, primarily thanks to the advent ofGrand Theft Auto Onlineand its continued success. In this way,the same ethos ofGTA Onlineshould extend to the potential co-op ofGrand Theft Auto 6, providing players with the full PvP versus PvE experience. A more competitive angle toGrand Theft Auto 6’sco-op could see players engage in street races against each other as a part of the game’s story, or even optionally fight against one another for control of city regions, offering lucrative bonuses to the victor to incentivize this kind of gameplay approach.
Teams of co-op partners could also face off against one another in things like heists, being able to sabotage other teams or poach their hauls to give a more tangible level of risk versus reward to optional co-operative play. While dedicated story mode co-op seems like a perhaps risky move forGrand Theft Auto 6,the continued success ofGTA Onlineand its impact on the franchise’s identity makes the inclusion of this kind of co-operative play the next logical step inGTA’soffered experience.
