Earlier this month, Nintendo surprised fans with the reveal ofHyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, set to be the Switch’s big holiday game for 2020. Aprequel toThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamitywill combine the hack-and-slash gameplay of the originalHyrule Warriorswith a canon story. And now fans are getting an even closer look at the game thanks to a new trailer released by Nintendo during Tokyo Game Show.
The newHyrule Warriors: Age of CalamityTokyo Game Show trailer focuses on the main playable characters that will be featured in the new game. This includes series mainstays like Link and Zelda, as well as Daruk of the Gorons, Mipha of the Zoras, Revali of the Ritos, and Urbosa of the Gerudos, the champions of Hyrule. Other characters are spotted in the trailer as well, like a miniature Guardian robot that tags along, and even a young Impa, who was an old woman during the events ofBreath of the Wild.

The trailer gives fans a glimpse at the different champions' special attacks, and howBreath of the Wild-specific abilities will be incorporated into the typicalHyrule Warriorsgameplay formula. Overall, it looks as though the game should please both fans ofHyrule Warriorsas well as those who want more ofBreath of the Wild’s story. Hopefully it will be enough to tide fans over until they get their hands onBreath of the Wild 2, as the wait for that game may still be quite a long one.
The newHyrule Warriors: Age of Calamitytrailer ended with a reminder about the game’s pre-order bonus, which is aLucky Ladlecurrently exclusive to the digital version. However, it was also revealed thatHyrule Warriors: Age of Calamitywill include a Training Sword weapon as well, available to anyone who links theirBreath of the Wildsave to the game. It’s possible there will be other bonuses for linking one’sBreath of the Wildsave toAge of Calamity, but if so, they have yet to be revealed at this time.

TheTokyo Game Showpresentation gave fans a better look at the playable characters and revealed some of the first gameplay, but there are still many unanswered questions. For example, it’s unclear exactly which game modes will be available in the new game come launch, and it’s also unknown if the game will feature any playable characters outside of theBreath of the Wildera.
