According to recent news, upcoming horror titleThe Callisto Protocolwill take somewhere between 12-14 hours to beat. Coming from some of the creators behind the originalDead Space,The Callisto Protocolis another survival horror title where the player is trapped in a claustrophobic environment fighting off strange, zombie-like creatures. WhileDead SpaceandThe Callisto Protocolmay have similar premises, the two titles differ in plenty of ways. A lot ofThe Callisto Protocol’smechanics, for example, set it apart from the 2008 horror classic.
Being a game that focused heavily on body horror,Dead Spaceoriginally had a lot of gore and violence, butThe Callisto Protocolis looking to take that up a notch. Thedeath animations inThe Callisto Protocolare brutalenough on their own, but when combined with the violence the player can dish out through the game’s melee combat, it’s clear that the prison colony of Black Iron is going to be quite the battleground.

However, another similarity between the originalDead SpaceandThe Callisto Protocolis in how long it takes to beat both games. Revealed in a recent interview by mp1st with Game Director Glen Schofield,The Callisto Protocolwill reportedly take around 12-14 hours to beat.Dead Spaceoriginally took around 13 hours to complete the main story and some side content. While it isn’t clear whether theDead Spaceremakewill match this, EA Motive has stated it wishes to uphold the legacy of the original game.
WhileThe Callisto Protocolmight not be the lengthiest game on the market today, according to Schofield it will have plenty of replay value, especially in the later acts of the game. “Beta paths” will allow different players to mark their own path as they approach the story’s completion. Through exploringBlack Iron prison ofThe Callisto Protocol, players can find these “beta paths” and get different routes from their friends, something that Schofield believes will encourage conversations about the game.
Game length is an important discussion topic nowadays, as with the prices of a lot of AAA titles rising, people want to know they’re getting value for their money. Some titles likeGod of War RagnarokandStarfieldpromise dozens of hoursjust in the main story, but so long as a game has replay value, it can make up for having a shorter length to many gamers. Hopefully,The Callisto Protocolcan be an exciting horror experience without feeling a tad short.
The Callisto Protocolis set to release on July 14, 2025, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
