Destiny 2will launch itsWitch Queenexpansion at the end of February, and like with any otherDestiny 2expansion,Witch Queenwill be bringing with it a number of major changes to the looter-shooter. Not only willDestiny 2players see The Tangled Shore andForsakencampaign vaulted, but they will also see some significant changes to how the game’s loot works when it comes to blue drops.
Destiny 2blue drops are Rare-tier rewardsthat players earn in a number of ways.Destiny 2players earn blue drops in the same ways that they get Legendary and Exotic rewards, which is by completing playlist activities or looting them from chests and dead enemies. WhenThe Witch Queenexpansion launches on February 22, blue drops will no longer be earned for completing playlist activities once players reach the soft Power Level cap of 1500.

AfterDestiny 2players reach the soft cap of 1500, the only way to get blue drops will be by finding them in chests and looting them from enemies. Bungie hopes this will cut down on the timeDestiny 2players spend managing their inventories and visiting thePostmaster at the Tower. Replacing blue drops as playlist activity rewards will be an increased chance of getting Legendary gear and Legendary Shards.
Overall, this seems like it will be a positive change toDestiny 2and will be well-received by players, especially those who are well beyond the need for blue drops. It shouldn’t really have any impact on newDestiny 2players who rely on blue drops for that initialPower Level grind, and on paper, sounds as though it will simply make the endgame a little less tedious for the more hardcore players out there.
Getting rid of blue drops is just one way that Bungie is shaking upDestiny 2loot with the launch ofThe Witch Queenin February. For example, Bungie is getting rid ofDestiny 2Gunsmith Materialsentirely, bringing Tower vendor Banshee-44 more in-line with characters like The Drifter, Zavala, and Shaxx. AfterThe Witch Queenlaunches, players will be able to increase their Reputation Rank with Banshee-44 by dismantling Legendary and Exotic gear and completing bounties.
The way Bungie is changing how players rank up with Banshee-44 inDestiny 2’sWitch Queenexpansion sounds like it will be another positive change, though fans will want to see it all in action first. Luckily, theDestiny 2 Witch Queenrelease dateis right around the corner, so the wait to play is nearly over.
Destiny 2is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
