Why is Hollow Knight: Silksong Such a Big Deal?
Hollow Knightis the first (big) title of the indie developer Team Cherry. The game was funded through Kickstarter, and once it was finally out, it did not disappoint the fans. The game has a massive map, over forty bosses, and four DLCs, one of which adds information toHollow Knight’s lore through two more endings.
Originally,Hollow Knight:Silksongwas supposed to be a DLCas well, and part of the Kickstarter funds was supposed to go to its development. However, Team Cherry had to discard that idea because of how many changes it implied. InSilksong, players get to follow Hornet, one of the most important characters ofHollow Knight. Because of how different Hornet is to the Knight,Hollow Knight’s main character, Team Cherry decided to leave this idea out of the first game.
In exchange, Team Cherry has created a whole new game based on the idea of Hornet’s DLC. From what has been revealed so far, it seems likeHollow Knight: Silksongwill have bigger mapsto accommodate Hornet’s taller size and more dynamic movements. Even though the game will definitely connect to its predecessor, there will be some significant changes in the gameplay that will make fans ofHollow Knightrediscover the game.
Elden Ring and Hype Overload
The main similarity betweenHollow Knight: SilksongandElden Ringis not exactly in the narrative or the gameplay, but how hyped these games have become. There are very good reasons to be excited about both of these games as the two have amazing features. Of course, the high anticipation on behalf of the fans can also backfire. On one hand, it is always amazing to have users rooting for a game that has not been released, but it is also hard to live to the expectations of every fan.
Elden Ringis being developed by FromSoftware, the same developer who created incredibly successful titles such asBloodborneandDark Souls. Hidetaka Miyazaki, one of the video game directors of FromSoftware, is responsible forBloodborneand theSoulsseries, both of which have been critically acclaimed. This time, Miyazaki is working together withGeorge R.R. Martin in the development ofElden Ringand the involvement of the creator of theGame of Thronessaga is promising. This information alone makesElden Ringa title to be excited about.
WhileHollow Knight: Silksongdoes not come from a developer as big as FromSoftware, Team Cherry has proven that it can create amazing games as well. Even thoughHollow Knightis an indie title, it has amassed a considerable fanbase.Hollow Knightis known for being one of the best Metroidvania gameswith a complex narrative and a fun yet challenging gameplay. Furthermore, the game has great character designs and an amazing soundtrack to top it off.
SinceHollow Knightmade such a good impression in the fan community, it is only natural that fans are excited to see the sequel. While there is not as much information as the fans would want, there have been enough reveals for the fans to start making up theories aboutwhat some ofHollow Knight: Silksongmechanics will be like.
Zero Updates on Elden Ring/Hollow Knight
BothHollow Knight: SilksongandElden Ringhave been announced for a while, which means fans have been waiting for news for more than they would have wanted to. These two games were announced in 2019, and both of them are about to reach the two-year mark. Team Cherry started off giving updates about its sequel in their it, but the last entry on their webpage dates back to December 2019. The case ofElden Ringis still more strained since FromSoftware did not mention a single thing about its game throughout 99% of 2020. Last December, a couple of tweets acknowledged fans and the game, but that’s it.
Because of how silent Team Cherry has been, fans tend to get excited whenever there is a chance to receiveupdates onHollow Knight’s sequel. Not so long ago,Silksonggot its own spread on Edge magazine, and ever since the news came out, fans expected the feature to include a release date. Unfortunately, theSilksongarticle did not include any dates, although it did include plenty of details about the game which managed to get fans even more excited about the game.
