A lesser known house that still commands a cult following within the Harry Potter franchise is that of Hufflepuff, a house that is steeped with history.

The Fundamentals of Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacyis actively being developed by Avalanche Software and is being published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, aiming to be an action-adventure RPG with a highly detailed open world to explore. The title will largely be set within the prestigious wizarding school of Hogwarts, with the plot taking place within the relatively unexplored franchise time period of the 1890s. Players will be able to experience many facets of Hogwarts life, including comprehensive character customization and, importantly, the ability tochoose a specific Hogwarts house.
The title will see players deeply involved in thelife of being a student at Hogwarts, which will reportedly lead to a “dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world.” Within the game, players will be able to master a variety of spells, upgrade combat and traversal abilities, brew potions, and tame magical beasts as just a fraction of the offered experience. With how important house choice will be as a part of this experience, it is important to contextualize the deep history of each house, with Hufflepuff being no exception.
The History of House Hufflepuff
House Hufflepuff is an integrally important aspect of Hogwarts School, being one of the four student houses present within the school since its inception in the 10th century. As with all Hogwarts houses, Hufflepuff is named after the last name of its founding member.
Helga Hufflepuff was a Welsh witch born in the year 976, and is one of the four founding members ofHogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Being extremely close friends with other founder Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga and the others founded Hogwarts with the purpose of creating the most prestigious wizarding school in existence, and thus house Hufflepuff was born.
Each member had certain preferences of students that would be sorted into their respective houses, with Helga ensuring that Hufflepuff was made up of the most hardworking, patient, dedicated and loyal students. From its inception, Hufflepuff was considered the most inclusive of the Hogwarts houses, with Helga also ensuring safe workplaces for elves at Hogwarts, who are notoriously mistreatedwithin Harry Potter lore.
Over the years since its creation, Hufflepuff has held some extremely prolific witches and wizards within its ranks, despite the lower reputation it holds due to its wider level of acceptance when compared to other houses. For example, Hufflepuff member Hengist of Woodcroft founded the famous wizarding village of Hogsmeade in the Middle Ages. Another popular Hufflepuff alum was Triwizard champion Cedric Diggory, who was tragically killed in his sixth year under the orders of the nefarious Lord Voldemort. Throughout its history,Hufflepuff has maintained its core facets of loyalty and kindnesswhile producing successful and respected graduates, firmly establishing it as a fine choice of house for Hogwarts Legacy players.
