Summary
OneStarfieldmodder decided to treat Bethesda’s latest title to a hilarious Garfield-themed makeover. Their unique undertaking adds to the already substantiallist ofStarfieldmodsthat have been surfacing online since the game entered early access on September 1.
Bethesda’s single-player RPGs historically spawned some of the world’s largest modding communities, as underlined by the fact that they make up over half of the top ten most popular Nexus Mods titles as of 2023, based on both the number of released mods and their download figures.Starfieldwill seemingly continue that trend, having already received over 1,100 mods five days into its full-fledged launch.

One of the latest additions to that growing list of customizations is a humorous Garfield mod by Nexus Mods user TosothYaKnow. Much like its name suggests, the 133KB package replacesStarfield’sdefault start screenwith one featuring the face of the famous fictional cat. Garfield’s head used for the conversion wasn’t taken from Jim Davis’s comics but the 2004Garfield: The Movie, with the original menu edit being authored by Reddit user J8oot. This inspired TosothYaKnow to turn the mockup into an actual mod, the modder explained.
Since the original image was shared in a 720p resolution, the 1.0 version of the mod might look a bit smudgy on higher-fidelity displays. However, the joke menu was already treated to a 1.1 update that includes a new version of the artwork upscaled to 4K. The customized intro screen also features an editedStarfieldlogo that spells “Garfield,” although the graphic clashes with the original emblem. To circumvent that issue, players can use the Cleanfield mod by Nexus Mods user Gametism to remove the game’s original logo and pop-up messages from its introductory screen.
WhilemanyStarfieldmods don’t work with the PC Game Pass version of the game, that’s not the case with this Garfield-themed menu overhaul; given how the customization merely tweaks the RPG’s default intro screen video without touching its executable, it can be added to any version ofStarfieldby simply dropping the modified file into the game’s installation folder.
MostStarfieldmods that are currently available to download offer fairly limited functionality. Since the game is brand-new, more complex customizations will take time to develop, especially since Bethesda has yet to release its Creation Kit. According to a recent update from Todd Howard, the officialStarfieldmodding tools are planned to launch in 2024.
Starfieldis available now for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
