Summary
Mere weeks afterHelldivers 2was first released, a handful of hackers managed to break into the game’s files and discover a slew of content that’s allegedly set to come to the live-service game in the coming months. Along with new weapons and armor sets, theseHelldivers 2leaks also included an array of vehicles ranging from the now-releasedEXO-45 mech suit, to an armored 4-person buggy, to a long APC-like vehicle with a mounted turret on top.
Of course, all rumors should be taken with a hefty pinch of salt, and it could be a while until players see the next vehicle come toHelldivers 2, but once the door is open, there’s a whole mountain of potential just waiting to be mined. With new vehicle types also comes the possibility of new planet types, new Stratagems, new enemy types, and more content themed around the vehicle’s abilities. Out of all the possible vehicle typesHelldivers 2could add, boats could be the most intriguing.

Helldivers 2 Could Add Boats to the Battlefield
Adding Boats to Helldivers 2 Would Pave The Way for New Planets
While boats have never been part oftheHelldivers 2leaks, they’d be an incredibly interesting addition to the game that could pave the way for a slew of new, themed content, all of which would add a whole lot more variety to the game. As it currently stands,Helldivers 2’s galaxy has no water-focused planets, though water still plays an intriguing role on some worlds, often acting as an obstacle that players need to navigate around due to the Helldivers' inability to swim. Circumventing these watery channels can often lead to players being trapped in a bottleneck, with the only path across the water being a thin strip of land.
While this is a decent way to incorporate water intoHelldivers 2, the addition of boats could drastically change the type of planets that players could explore. Byadding boats toHelldivers 2, developer Arrowhead could add a handful of water-heavy planets, requiring players to use the vehicle to traverse the map and reach objectives, and thus making the act of reaching a mission even more challenging than it already is.

Adding Boats to Helldivers 2 Could Bring About a New Enemy Faction and New Missions
On the subject of missions,Helldivers 2could also add in a new water-based enemy faction, along with a handful of new mission types specifically designed for naval-focused gameplay. These missions could essentially turnHelldivers 2into a lite version ofSea of Thieves, with teammates needing to man different positions on the boat to complete missions efficiently. These missions could see players raid small islands, or destroy naval structures in a similar vein toAssassin’s Creed: Black Flag’s forts. So much ofHelldivers 2’s gameplay loop already revolves around teamwork, and adding boats and naval missions would only serve to reinforce that.
Boats in Helldivers 2 Would Need to be Carefully Balanced
As is the case with adding anything toHelldivers 2, boats would need to be carefully balanced by Arrowhead to ensure that they remain fun to use, while also leaning into the game’s higher level of difficulty and not making them too overpowered. One possible way to do this is by makingHelldivers 2’s boatsvery high-risk and high-reward. For instance, boats inHelldivers 2could have some fierce firepower if manned by a whole squad, but could also result in the death of that entire squad upon destruction, requiring players to make a tough decision when choosing their Stratagems, and when playing water-focused missions.
