TheGuitar Heroseries is amusic/rhythmn game franchisethat was incredibly popular in the mid-2000s. After a deluge of releases, the series eventually fell to the wayside. Its developer, Harmonix, branched off to create theRock Bandseries of games, which had similar music-based rhythm gameplay asGuitar Hero. While the developer would eventually be acquired by Epic Games in 2021, Harmonix would continue supporting theRock Bandseries with DLC. Its likely no surprise that Harmonix was responsible for developingFortnite’s newFortnite Festivalmode.

Fortnite FestivalmimicsGuitar Hero’s gameplay, having five keys that players need to play as notes fly down a “highway.” Players can choose between a Guitar, Bass, Keytar, or microphone, which is also reminiscent ofRock Band’s control options.Fortnite Festivalalso contains several licensed songs that players can choose to rock out to that span many different genres and periods. These include “Gangnam Style” by PSY, “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd, and more. Players can either aim for a top score on Main Stage or create their own mixes on Jam Stage too.

With this game mode replicating theRock Bandseries, some gamers may want to try breaking out the oldGuitar HeroorRock Bandcontroller peripherals to play. As of this writing however,Fortnite Festivaldoesn’t support instrument controllers.. However, developers are working on their implementation. More information about plastic instruments being usable inFortnite Festivalwill be shared in 2024.
