TheGrand Theft Automodding lawsuit has been officially settled, but Take-Two may be seeking out others. The case has been going on for two years now, but it seems there’s a possibility for theGrand Theft Automodding drama to continue.Take-Two served a lawsuit against a team of modders back in September 2021. The company which owns Rockstar Games and 2K sought legal action because of a project which was developed to reverse engineer the source code ofGrand Theft Auto: Vice CityandGrand Theft Auto 3. The modders' aim was to build ports for more consoles and to fix a number of issues which came with the original games. Only two months after this theGTA Trilogy Definitive Editionwas released, and its reception was highly negative. The backlash got to such a scale that Rockstar had to release an apology. A week after the modding project was announced, Take-Two requested a DMCA takedown on GitHub, but the modders not long after issued counterclaims.RELATED:GTA RP Streamer RatedEpicz Permanently Banned from NoPixel ServerThe lawsuit claimed Take-Two is owed$300,000 in damages. While the court proceedings were issued to go ahead this year, the affected parties managed to settle outside of court. Through court documents which were submitted on April 4 and 5, Take-Two formally dismissed the lawsuit against all defendants. This means the case is now closed, however, its implications are not yet known. There are no public records on what the settlement entailed, therefore it’s not known whether Take-Two received its $300,000 or if the parties have decided on a different solution.

Beyond this current case, it looks like Take-Two might not be completely done with settling the score. Take-Two reportedly still intends to find out who the unnamed defendants were in the case. This makes it sound like Take-Two intends on suing more modders who were involved with the project. This doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise, consideringTake-Two has been known to be protectiveof its properties.

Whether Take-Two is serious about wanting to find the rest of the modding team will only be known if a new lawsuit appears.
