Martin firmly expressed thatA Song of Ice and Fireis still his “number one priority, and will remain so until the story is told.” However, the author explains that theGame of Thronesuniversehas become so much more than bothThe Winds of WinterandA Song of Ice and Fire, so the release of long-awaited titles is taking longer, so that other titles may progress.

On a positive note, Martin turns to update fans on the television side ofGame of Thrones. TheGame of Thronessuccessor shows have taken up a large proportion of Martin’s focus, as the author wants to keep the stories as canonical as possible. Martinexcitedly announced thatHouse of Dragon, starring Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, has finished filming in London and entered post-production. Martin also hints to fans that more live-action shows and animated series are in development forHBO and HBO Max, which change the tone set in the previous series, offering more stories in the vast world Westeros.
