There are few live-service games that are willing to shake up their identity quite so frequently asFortnite. WhileFortnitewill likely always retain its cartoon-y visuals and lighthearted, family-friendly essence, with every new Season, it undergoes some pretty significant changes. Points of interest are often swapped out and destroyed on a whim, weapons are vaulted and unvaulted frequently, and brand-new mechanics are added way more often than they maybe should be. Thelatest Season update, titled “Mega,” seesFortnitestep into the world of cyberpunk, with a new neon-soaked aesthetic covering the game from head to toe. But with this new aesthetic also comes the possibility of new crossovers.
The cyberpunk genre has been around since the 1960s, and while it’s never been the most popular form of Sci-Fi, it’s managed to stick around for over six decades now. In those years, a good fewpopular cyberpunk franchiseshave emerged, and while a handful could make for good crossover content, there’s one that absolutely needs to come toFortniteduring its Mega Season.

Fortnite’s New Cyberpunk Aesthetic Lends Itself to a Blade Runner Crossover
It takes very little research to determine thatFortniteloves its Sci-Fi franchise crossovers. WhileMarvel, DC, andStar Warsare all common points of inspiration forFortnitecrossovers, these are also some of the biggest franchises in the world, and their place in the game makes complete sense. However,Fortnite’s Sci-Fi crossovers don’t stop at just those franchises that are still popular. Both theAlienand thePredatorfranchises have seenFortnitecrossovers, and though they are still around, they’re not nearly as relevant as they once were. Hopefully, this paves the way for another popular, yet lesser-known Sci-Fi franchise crossover.
WithFortnite’s Mega Season fully adopting a cyberpunk aesthetic, with gigantic neon billboards, futuristic cars, and drifting motorbikes, it’s the perfect time for aBlade Runnercrossover. First released in 1982,Ridley Scott’sBlade Runneris one of the most influential Sci-Fi movies of all time, and is still widely considered to be the greatest cyberpunk movie ever made, along with its 2017 sequelBlade Runner 2049.
ThoughBlade Runnerisn’t the most popular Sci-Fi franchise, withBlade Runner 2049being an infamous box-office disappointment despite its phenomenal quality, it feels very strange to seeFortnitetake so much inspiration from the series to design Mega City and not include at least a nod to it. Much likeAlienandPredatorbefore it, there’s plenty of room to include new crossover skins inFortnite, andBlade Runnerhas a good few options to choose from.
Of course, the most obvious pick for aBlade RunnerxFortnitecrossover skin would beHarrison Ford’s Rick Deckard. The titular bounty hunter tasked with wiping out rogue androids, Rick Deckard is the face of theBlade Runnerfranchise, and Harrison Ford’s continued popularity over the years leads him to being the perfect choice for aBlade RunnerFortniteskin.Fortnitecould even include two different styles for the skin, encompassing both his appearance in the originalBlade Runner, and his older look inBlade Runner 2049. IfFortnitewanted to dive even deeper into the world ofBlade Runnerfor a crossover cosmetic pack, then an additional skin based on Ryan Gosling’s Officer K would also be great to see. Along with the skins, a few otherBlade Runner-themed cosmetics could be thrown in for good measure, such as a glider based on the series' iconic Spinner flying cars.
Fortniteis available now on mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
