Square Enix surprisedFinal Fantasyfans today by releasing a brand-new trailer forFinal Fantasy 16, set to launch in summer 2023 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.Final Fantasyfans have been anxiously awaiting a newFinal Fantasy 16trailer for quite some time, and now they have a sizable one to sink their teeth into that showcases the game’s impressive-looking world, its various characters, and some of its epic-scale boss battles.

The latestFinal Fantasy 16trailer explains more of the game’s story, explaining the background of Valisthea, its various kingdoms, and the key players involved. Like manyFinal Fantasygames before it, crystals play animportant role inFinal Fantasy 16’s story, with their importance stressed in the new trailer. Eikons, the summons inFinal Fantasy 16, are also given a big spotlight in the latest trailer, as are their Dominants.

TheFinal Fantasy 16trailer mostly consists of cutscenes and dialogue between the game’s various characters, but it does feature some glimpses at gameplay. This mainly comes in the form of boss fights, withFinal Fantasy 16Eikonsfighting each other. In the trailer, players can see Phoenix do battle with the Eikon of Fire, and they can also briefly see Ifrit square off against the likes of Bahamut and Titan.

WhileFinal Fantasy 16’s Eikons are a major focus of the trailer, fans can also see protagonist Clive Rosfield do battle as well. HighlightingFinal Fantasy 16’s flashy combat, Clive fights powerful foes in Hugo and Benedikta. Besides human enemies, Clive also finds himself fighting an Eikon, taking on the massive Odin summon that has been a mainstay in theFinal Fantasyfranchise for decades.

Unfortunately, a specificFinal Fantasy 16release date wasn’t revealed with the new trailer, but it did reiterate that the game is on track for a summer 2023 release. Of course, it’s always possible that development will hit a snag and fans will have to wait later than expected to play the game, so they should keep that in mind before getting too excited. However, it was said months ago thatFinal Fantasy 16was in the final stages of development, so chances seem good that it will meet its release window.
