The Netflix original horror trilogyFear Streetmade its ghastly appearance on the streamer during the summer of 2021 and delivered three bloodcurdling films that explored an evil force plaguing an innocent town. The fear, however, does not seem to be over as Netflix looks to be developing more films to bring the iconic book series further to life.

Netflix’sFear Streettrilogy draws its frightful inspiration from the best-selling teenager horror fiction series written by notable author R.L. Stine. The author’s first publishedFear Streetbook,The New Girl, arrived in 1989 and has since become one of the best-selling young adult series of all time. The films are set in three different years and follow three separate casts of protagonists caught in a web of evil tormenting in the same geographical setting of Shadyside.

The films performed well, but it was unclear whether Netflix would revisit Shadyside. Stine, however, seems to have insight into the streamer’s plans. While speaking with Yahoo! Entertainment, the author was asked aboutfutureGoosebumpsfilmsand revealed what could be on the horizon for the horror fiction series. “There’s still talk about moreGoosebumpsmovies, and I also hear rumors about moreFear Streetmovies for Netflix, because the first ones did so well last summer,” he said.

The films earned solid ratings on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, withFear Street Part Three: 1666earning the highest overall rating with a 90% critics score. The brutality of the films was a component that stood out to audiences and even to the emblematic author. “Those films kind of shocked me, because they were all R-rated, and I’ve never done anything R-rated!” expressed Stine. “All those teenagers were getting slashed. I was like, ‘Suddenly, I have a slasher movie!'”

Leigh Janiak directed the Netflix film trilogy, starring a cast of young talent that included Benjamin Flores Jr., Kiana Madeira, Julia Rehwald, andStranger Thingsstars Sadie Sinkand Maya Hawke. New films would ultimately usher in a brand-new cast of characters if the story’s focus shifts, but nothing has surfaced indicating new additions to theFear Streetnarrative. Netflix has not confirmed that Janiak will return as director for the new films, but details should arise as development progresses.

Fear Streetdelivered something unexpected, making capturing lightning in a bottle a difficult feat to accomplish twice. The horror fiction series has a clearly defined identity, and it will be interesting to see how Netflix can remain true to its essence while expanding the story further. As Stine indicated, there are rumors thatbrand-newFear Streetfilmsare possibly in the works, which means a return to Shadyside is not a guarantee, but one audience can excitedly hope to arrive.
