InFallout 76, CAMP (stylized as C.A.M.P.) is a portable construction and assembly base. After placing the CAMP device, the player can build a customized house around it with essential and cosmetic structures. CAMPs are also mission operation centers that serve as a save, heal, build, and inventory management spot.
C.A.M.P stands for Construction & Assembly Mobile Platform, which is a Dweller-exclusive item invented by the Vault-Tec Corporation. Each player is given this device upon enteringFallout 76’s multiplayer map. Players will only have two CAMP slots unless they buy the additional eight slots from the Atoms Shop for 8,000 Atoms, which adds up to ten CAMP slots in total.

The following guide aims to cover the basics of CAMP building, as well as advanced tips for relocating, adding pets, or inviting allies to it.
Updated on Jul 12, 2025, by Mohsen Baqery:In a game like Fallout 76, where survival is at the heart of the gameplay, having a safe shelter is a must. CAMPs are therefore considered the essential part of adapting to post-apocalyptic Appalachia and starting to build/grow. But most Dwellers are thrown into the harsh world of Fallout without proper tutorials on how to use them. And now that many newcomers have joined the game after Prime Video’s hit show, the lack of information on this device is more apparent. With this in mind, we have updated this guide to include even more detailed guides on using CAMPs as well as new sections explaining how the ally and pet systems work.

How to Place CAMP in Fallout 76
Placing a CAMP is straightforward. Open the Pip-Boy and place the C.A.M.P. device on a flat surface. Then build foundations in the green area, add doors, walls, and roofs, andfill it with necessary itemslike beds, water pumps, and workbenches.
Despite the Locked and Loaded update that allowed five CAMPs, players can still place only one on the map. In other words, there can’t be more than one Active CAMP on the map. And players must toggle their CAMP Slots on and off to use all five.

Building CAMPs inFallout 76requires plans. To get them, capture and defend workstations, buy them from vendors, loot them in containers, or receive them as quest completion rewards.
How to Move the CAMP
To reposition a CAMP, open the Pip-Boy by pressing Tab (B on Xbox or Circle on PlayStation) and select “Move C.A.M.P.” Then go to another location and place the device on a suitable flat surface.
Note that the CAMP doesn’t move with the structures. Once repositioned, structures from the previous location will be added to the “Stored” section in the “Build Mode.” Players will need to find and rebuild them again in the new area. But it won’t cost additional resources.

There is no limit on how many times players can move their CAMPs. But repositioning comes with a cost. The first replacement costs 5 Caps, and the price increases every time the CAMP moves.
How to Break Down CAMP Blueprints
Moving a CAMP automatically turns structures into blueprints. To break up those plans, get into the Build Mode (hold the V key), go to Stored, and press R on a blueprint. This will take the plan apart and add its items to the Stored section individually.
Breaking down aCAMP blueprintuses Budget and requires free space in the inventory. But the extracted items don’t cost any resources.

How to Get CAMP Allies
Allies are NPCs who join a CAMP. To get them, the player will need to interact with them or complete character-exclusive quests. Once an ally is unlocked, their specific Workbench must be added to a CAMP so they spawn.
Think of CAMP allies as on-demand Vendors with some additional perks. For example, romanced allies give a daily boost if the player spends the night with them. Other characters provide quick services such as healing or cooking. However, since each CAMP can only have one ally, the player might need to rotate between them to benefit from all features.

How to Get a Pet for CAMP
To get a pet, players will need to equip the Animal Friend perk. This card allows for pacifying wild creatures, with a small chance to tame them afterward. A tamed animal will walk to the CAMP and stay there as long as it’s alive. Each player can own only one pet, and the pet will have to walk to the new CAMP location if the player relocates their base.
The following table shows which animals inFallout 76can join the CAMP as a pet.
