The acquisition of ZeniMax Media by Microsoft doesn’t appear to have impacted the continued development ofFallout 76, despite the new ownership. In a new update shared by Bethesda Game Studios, theFallout 76team shared a variety of information about the online game’s upcoming update. Arriving on October 13, the nextFallout 76update will focus on bugs, some Halloween cosmetics, and most excitingly, some background framework for the late-2020 Steel Dawn Update.
The Steel Dawn Update isFallout 76’s next major content update, the sixth since the game’s launch. It won’t arrive until later this year, butFallout 76players are already looking forward to it. As the name implies, the Steel Dawn Update will bring back the Brotherhood of Steel in a big way. And as is befitting theFalloutfranchiseand history,Fallout 76’s Vault Dweller will have the opportunity to either join up with the Brotherhood of stand against them at their own peril.

For the time being, however, Bethesda is focused on next week’s small update. Bethesda even makes clear that this is a smaller update than usual due to the big plans in store forSteel Dawn. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t content worth looking forward to, however. For example, Bethesda’s making some improvements and changes forFallout 76’s Hunt for the Treasure Hunter event, as it’ll be returning next Thursday.
Hunt for the Treasure Hunter officially starts on October 15 and four key changes have been made. First,Treasure Hunter Mole Minerswill now spawn across Appalachia and will scale dynamically. The better for players to earn level appropriate legendary loot. Second, some unique loot is being added and split into its own pool, so that players will be rewarded appropriately. Third, Ornate Mole Miner Pails now have an increased drop rate from Miners and can drop better gear even from lower-quality Pails. Finally, crafted Mole Miner Pail components will cost fewer caps from vendors. It’s all-around a more rewarding event.
While there aren’t any bigger changes coming in the next update, Bethesda does have some important plans for the future. Hunger and Thirst mechanics remain in development, as doCAMP Shelters. There are changes coming toFallout 76soon, but they need a bit longer in development before they’re finished.
WithMicrosoft’s acquisition of ZeniMax Media, no one really knows what the future ofFallout 76is. Microsoft could be just as likely to rededicate to continuedFallout 76service as it would be to move the development team onto a new project. But for the foreseeable future, there’s moreFallout 76to come.
Fallout 76is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
