Within the last few years,Personahas gained a lot of traction and popularity within the gaming community. The release ofPersona 5introduced a lot of new players to thePersonaseries, and in turn gave them a lot of unexplored content they may not have discovered otherwise. Now, it seems thatPersonamight be making a greater stance in 2021.
The release ofPersona 5marked not only the return ofPersona, but also celebrated the 20th anniversary of the franchise. While speaking at the PlayStation Awards 2020,Atlus producer and directorKazuhisa Wada, who has been around sincePersona 2, mentioned the studio has exciting plans for 2021 given that will mark the franchise’s 25th anniversary. Nothing concrete was mentioned outside of the fact that there are plans in the works, but a lot can be surmised from this.
One theory that some of the newer fans may appreciate is that next year could mark the release ofPersona 6. While this would be an excellent way to celebrate the series' 25th anniversary, the prospect of another installment this early is unlikely. It took eight years forPersona 5to be developed and released, so another mainline installment may be a few more years down the road.
There are some less ambitious ideas that could be in the works as a way to celebrate the series.A remake ofPersona 3is something that fans have desired for a number of years now. It would mark an excellent return to a title beloved by many, and it would make more sense to remake this game as opposed to remakingPersona 4considering the recent PC port ofPersona 4Goldenwas received very favorably.
Another idea would bea remake ofPersona 1and thePersona 2duology. There is dedicated pool of fans who have been wanting the earliestPersonatitles remade for a long time. While Atlus hasn’t paid these games much mind for awhile now, remakes aren’t that far outside the realm of possibility, especially considering that Atlus is putting out a remake ofShin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturnesometime next year. For now, it seems thatPersonafans will ultimately just have to wait and find out.
