Following its highly anticipated release,Mortal Kombat 1has already seen a lot of successincluding positive reviews from critics as well as strong word of mouth from the community at large. Of course, the launch is only the start as Ed Boon and NetherRealm Studios have long teased that plenty more content is planned for the long haul.

Downloadable content and updates are nothing new for theMortal Kombatfranchise as the previous game not only brought new characters but a dedicated expansion which ultimately set the stage for theMK1campaign. To this point, fans are already aware of the firstKombat Pack forMortal Kombat 1, which includes some returning fighters like Ermac, Takeda, and Quan Chi, but also sees notable guest characters like Omni-Man, Homelander, and Peacemaker. Taking to X, Ed Boon posted an image comprised of many horror character icons like Freddy, Jason, Jigsaw, Pinhead, and more. The image features a series of green check marks and question marks with a simple caption that only uses two emojis: a dragon and a thinking face. Naturally, many have already begun to speculate that the image teases additional guest characters forMortal Kombat 1, especially since the green checkmarks are over ones that have already been included within the series.

For now, Michael Myers, Pinhead, Chucky, Jigsaw, and Ghostface are the only ones with a green question mark over them, likely teasing fans about which character could be getting added at some point. For many fans of theMortal Kombatfranchise,Ghostface has been one of the more highly requested guest charactersover the years alongside Michael Myers, with many comments continuing to push for those two in particular. Some have even requested a full Horror specific DLC pack with Chucky and Jigsaw as potential kameo options due to their smaller size.

The news should be too surprising as recentMortal Kombatgames have a long history with adding horror characters as DLC. It started with 2011’sMortal Kombatwhich added Freddy Kruger from theNightmare on Elm Streetfranchise, then continued intoMKXwhich brought Leatherface, Alien, Jason Voorhees, and Predator. Then withMortal Kombat 11, NetherRealm released a ton of surprising guest characters as DLC, focusing more on action-based characters like The Terminator, Spawn, RoboCop, and John Rambo. Either way, it’s a good bet that NetherRealm has a few more surprises up its sleeve for future DLC, especially based on Ed Boon’s teases.
