To manage expectations for those who expect to see NetherRealm’s next game at The Game Awards this year (whether it’s a newMortal Kombatgame or something else entirely), Boon said that the studio is not ready to announce its next game yet. Since Boon has a history of trolling fans on Twitter, there are still those who think he’s misleading them and that NetherRealm’s next game will indeed be revealed at The Game Awards, but fans shouldn’t hold their breath.
This isn’t the first time that Boon has attempted to manage expectations when it comes to his NetherRealm’s presence at The Game Awards this year. Recently, Boon confirmed that while he will bein attendance at The Game Awards in Los Angeles, he is not one of the presenters this year. Regardless, it seems some fans are still unwilling to take him at face value and are holding out hope that NetherRealm’s next project will be revealed at the event.
As for what NetherRealm’s next project is, that remains to be seen. Boon recently narrowed it down to two possibilities:Injustice 3orMortal Kombat 12. Of course, it’s possible that Boon was just joking about that as well, and the studio’s next project could be something completely unexpected.
One persistent rumor has been thatNetherRealm is working on a Marvel fighting game, but nothing official has been announced about it. Whatever the case may be, it seemsMortal Kombatfans and fans of NetherRealm’s work in general will have to wait a bit longer to find out what’s coming next.
