Devolver Digital, the publisher of games such asRuinerand horror gameCarrion, has confirmed that it will be holding a livestream for E3 2020. The company revealed its plans after the Entertainment Software Association announced thatE3 2020 has been canceled.
On Twitter,Devolversaid that it is “genuinely bummed” about E3 2020 being canceled but that it is trying to find another way to make game announcements. The publisher said that it plans on holding an E3 2020 stream, which it is calling a Devolver Direct, or it may hold a press conference. Devolver also teased that there could be “something more” but it hasn’t revealed any more details about what that could be.

Devolver’s Twitter followers also seem to be hugely disappointed that E3 2020 has been canceled, though many are glad the company will be doing something for the event. While other publishers hold official press conferences, Devolver’s E3 streams have always been ridiculous. In other E3 streams, the character Nina Struthers, which is Devolver’s made up boss, has chanted “loot boxes” on stage, fired guns, and announced an official Devolver cryptocurrency. Many gamers mayreally dislike loot boxes, but Devolver was able to have some fun with it.
The company’s E3 events have also offered some big game announcements. At E3 2019,Devolver announcedCarrion, a horror game where players are a creature that has escaped and is now tearing the guards that held them apart. It’s not scary like other horror games but it is the sort of fun idea that fans would expect Devolver to publish.
Devolver also announcedFall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, which is a battle royale game, but it isn’t likeFortniteorApex Legends. Players have to smash through doors, try not to get hit by huge poles, and ride on skateboards. The game could potentially be part of Devolver’s E3 2020 plans.
Many games publishers are now trying to decide what to do for E3 2020. A tweet confirmed thatUbisoft will be holding an E3 2020 streamand Xbox’s E3 2020 plans have also turned into some sort of digital event. E3 2020 being cancelled means that gaming media and fans will not be able to get together and enjoy games in one place but if every publisher that was going to the event holds a stream, fans will be able to get the big game announcements that they want.
