WhileDestiny 2is well known for its countless pieces of equipment and epic action, it also has developed an operatic story over the course of its lifespan. This includes great battles in the store, as well as numerous characters that dedicated fans of the series have come to spend a lot of time with. AnyDestiny 2fan is more than familiar with the sarcastic quips of the Drifter, the witty comebacks from Cayde-6, and the somber stoicism of Zavala.
One of the deepest and most tragic ofDestiny 2’s characters is Eris Morn. ThroughoutDestiny 2players have to talk to Eris to receive story missions as well as being able to purchase upgrade materials and ammo synthesis items, which is very rare for vendors inDestiny 2. Eris also sells unique class items, emblems, and shaders in exchange for Black Wax Idol.Destiny 2players have become quite fond of Eris over the years for her tragic backstory and dedication to stopping the Hive at any cost. This made many players pretty disappointed thatEris was not featured inDestiny 2’s Season of the Lost.

Eris Morn’s First Life and the Great Ahamkara Hunt
Likemost Guardians inDestiny 2, Eris Morn joined the forces of the Light after dying and being gifted the Light by a ghost. The process leaves Guardians not remembering anything of their life before, but there are some details that eagle-eyedDestinyplayers can piece together. The information that players can find is contained in the lore book Truth to Power. It claims that Eris Morn was known as Erisia Pyatova-Hsien and lived in Russia as a swimmer. She eventually died during an unassisted winter swim. Very little else is known about Eris' first life other than that her birth occurred more than 300 years beforeDestinyto civilian parents in a neighborhood that was inhabited by both civilians and Guardians.
One of the first notable works of Eris Morn is known as the Great Ahamkara Hunt. Ahamkara were massive creatures that first appeared on Venus after the arrival ofthe Traveler inDestiny’s world. Ahamkara were extremely powerful and were capable of granting wishes to Guardians in exchange for some of their power, which only made the Ahamkara grow in influence and capabilities. The beings quickly grew to become a massive threat to the entire Sol system, leading Eris to lead a hunt to exterminate the entire species. The Ahamkara are known to have bones that whispered to those nearby after they were killed, and Eris Morn is known to still carry a shard of one bone with her at all times.

Eris Morn and Crota
After the failed attempt by the Vanguard to reclaim the Moon from the Hive, Eris began working with Eriana-3 to try and find a way to kill the Hive Prince Crota.Destinyplayers are likely pretty familiar with Crota after fighting their way throughDestiny’s Crota’s End raidand know that it is an immensely powerful Hive God. Eris and Eriana-3 gathered a capable team of Guardians to go and kill Crota after discovering how, but the mission ultimately led to disaster. All of the Guardians were killed other than Eris Morn, whose own Ghost was completely drained of light. Eris was only able to escape death herself by accepting the guidance of the Ahamkara bone that she had kept, although she eventually lost her eyes to the Hive.

Later on, Eris teamed up with the player to try and prevent Crota from being resurrected. To do this, she sent the Guardian to destroy Crota’s sword while also sending them to stop a ritual that aimed to awaken Crota’s soul. The Guardian manages to stop the ritual despite it having begun earlier than expected, and Eris then sends them to kill Crota’s mate Omnigul to ensure that Crota would stay dead forever. This operation was also successful, with the Guardian eventually traveling into the Ascendant Realm to slay Crota’s soul for good at his Oversoul Throne. This was a major victory for the Vanguard and helped Eris start moving on from her history withDestiny’s Hive Gods.
Eris Morn and Destiny 2’s Pyramids
After Eris' work with the Guardian to defeat Crota she left the Tower to continue her research and investigation. Eventually, she found herself on the Moon, where she found a mysterious black surface beneath the Moon’s surface. After touching the surface, Eris became haunted by the ghosts of her fellow fallen Guardians, while also unleashing one ofDestiny’s Hive Sectsknown as the Hidden Swarm, which built the Scarlet Keep to take advantage of the strange Pyramid Eris discovered on the Moon’s surface. Eris then began working with the Guardian to develop a plan to enter the Pyramid and put an end to the Hidden Swarm once and for all.
Eris eventually helps the Guardian make their way into the Pyramid, where they have an interaction with a mirror image of themselves from the Darkness that calls itself Salvation. The Guardian then returns to Eris, who interprets the interaction as another sign of theDarkness' return to the world ofDestiny. The rest of what players have seen of Eris Morn inDestiny 2sees her completing various research projects in an attempt to understand the nature of both the universe and the Light as well as the Darkness. This has led some players to be concerned that Eris is falling to the influence of the Darkness, but only time will tell.

It will be very interesting to see whereDestiny 2takes Eris Morn and the rest of its many characters moving forward. There are a lot of great directions that the developers could opt to go in, and it seems as thoughDestiny’s story won’t be ending anytime soon. WithDestiny 2’s upcoming Witch Queen expansionpromising to start closing the series' plot arc so far, players will undoubtedly have some great story developments to look forward to in the near future. Hopefully, Bungie is able to make them feel more than worthwhile.
Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
