Following the addition of a relaxing fishing activity inDestiny 2, players discuss one of the major pain points with the new feature being tied to public events. It’s been a big week for fans ofDestiny 2as Bungie not only revealed the first teaser trailer for The Last Shape expansion, but the weekly reset also brought along the highly anticipated Season of the Deep. As Bungie revealed over the past few weeks, Season 21 brought a ton of updates and tweaks with it, balancing weapons, exotics, and attempting torevive some of the lesser usedDestiny 2subclasses.
In terms of gameplay,Season of the Deep reintroduces Deputy Commander Sloaneas players dive deep into the Methane Ocean on Titan to do battle with Taken and Hive in new seasonal missions. One of the bigger surprises with Season 21 is the introduction of a fishing activity, which lets players catch various forms of fish in order to claim rewards and ultimately take a break from the action and tension found in coreDestiny 2activities. However, as well received as fishing has become with players, there is one major issue that players aren’t a fan of.

While the fishing minigame can be done as a solo activity,Destiny 2incentivizes fishing with others with a buff called Focused Fishing. This value increases the longer players fish together at a location, which makes finding rarer fish easier over time and getting players better loot. Unfortunately, players have noted that this system isn’t perfect because these fishing locations are tied to public activities that occur in the zones and will disappear when one spawns. Worse yet, when the fishing hole disappears to make way for the public event, the buff also goes away with it.
Fans have taken to social media and theDestiny 2subReddit to voice their frustrations with this. One post in particular from a user named unnecessary_z highlighted this problem, giving kudos for the gameplay loop associated with fishing, but noting how the public event interruptions are causing issues with players going AFK until the event passes. Other users appear to be in agreement while some theorize that if the Focus didn’t reset, everyone would always have the maximum buff and likely break the game’s economy with easy to get resources and loot. Regardless, fans seem to agree that the current system isn’t perfect and could use a tweak or two.
In addition to fishing, players have raised concerns over another Season of the Deep change. According to patch notes,Bungie reduced the drop rate for Neomuna weapons from VIP patrols, originally an easy way to earn some of the newer gear. Unfortunately, for those seeking the newer Neomuna weapons, it appears that they’ll be grinding a bit more than originally expected.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
