Deathloop, the latest game from Arkane Studios, is available now and has received a very impressive critical reception. It’s ironic then that despiteDeathloop’s popularity, it seems that the voice of the game’s protagonist, Colt, has been unable to play the game yet. Voice actor Jason Kelley recently confirmed that he hasn’t been able to playDeathloopbecause he hasn’t been able to buy himself a PlayStation 5 yet. That is, until Microsoft stepped in to help.
In a Twitter message shared via the officialDeathloopaccount, Kelley celebrated the game’s launch by asking his fans to go pick up a copy of the game. He also mentioned that if anyone can help him get a PS5, he’d love to pick up a copy himself. In a response to the tweet, Bethesda SVP of marketing/communicationsPete Hinestold Kelley that he “can probably help find you a PS5,” noting that if anyone deserves the chance to play as Colt, it was the man behind his “amazing” performance.

Kelley has since followed up on the topic as part of an interview with the JUMPCUT PLAY Youtube channel, published on Friday. While he says that he hasn’t been able to playDeathloopyet, norhas he yet received a PS5, he was assured by Hines that a console and a copy of the game are going to be shipped to him. Kelley adds that he’s “super excited” to finally be able to try outDeathloopfor himself.
The ironic part is, of course, that it’s Microsoft sending Kelley a PS5.Deathloopis developed by Arkane, which is a subsidiary of Bethesda, which is now owned by Microsoft. However,Deathloopis under an exclusivity contract with PlayStation going back to before Bethesda had been acquired. Assuming Kelley doesn’t play games on PC, there’s only one other way to playDeathloop. That’s on PS5, Microsoft’s biggest competitor.
It just goes to show that whileMicrosoft and Sonyare certainly competing, the “war” between them isn’t without courtesy. Microsoft isn’t just beholden to its contracts. It’s also willing to go the extra mile in these odd and perhaps uncomfortable scenarios. IfDeathloopwas on Xbox Series X, it’d be a simpler situation. But since it’s more complex than that, getting Kelley a way to play the game takes priority.
Regardless, it’s going to be fun to hear what Kelley thinks ofDeathloopand his own performance, having played the game himself. It’s going to be important, considering Kelley may be on a number of stages this fall accepting awards for hisrole as Colt.
