Warning: Minor Spoilers Ahead for Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty.
Summary
Serving as a standalone expansion to the base game,Cyberpunk 2077:Phantom Libertycarries quite a different tone with it. While many players can beNetrunners and more inCyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty sees them as a secret agent for the FIA. It may not feel like it to many players, as V more or less acts the same after being sworn in by President Rosalind Myers herself.
While the FIA part of the story is all in name to a degree, otherimportant problems are present in Phantom Libertythat fans may notice more as some parts of the spy-thriller DLC deliver with flying colors. Some of this includes V being told government secrets and learning where people’s true loyalties lie as they’re accepted into a rag-tag group of FIA members who have barely kept it together after operations gone wrong, but the biggest is when a rendezvous at the Black Sapphire leads to a playable spy movie espionage mission.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty’s You Know My Name Quest
After Slider incidentally loses his life to the Blackwall to help get V back in touch with Songbird, it’s understood that the group’s missing Netrunner is in the hands of Kurt Hansen. Once this is revealed, it’s decided that the best way to get Songbird back is to break in under Kurt’s nose, to avoid any fuss from Barghest. After doing a number of jobs for Mr. Hands, V and crew get a foolproof plan to break into the Black Sapphire, home to Kurt’s big penthouse party for theDogtownelites, and things begin properly feeling like something out of James Bond.
In fact, if there was a checklist for specific things an in-game quest would need to feel reminiscent of many classic spy movies, Phantom Liberty’s You Know My Name quest checks them all. The mission is explained to V with a 3D glimpse at the Black Sapphire’s layout; it begins with entering the venue through an underwater tunnel, only to get dressed into a guest outfit to mingle among the party before finallymeetingCyberpunk 2077’s Songbirdin a way that lives up to Phantom Liberty’s initial promises.

How Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty’s Stakes are Raised After the Black Sapphire
Obviously, as fun as this required quest inCyberpunk 2077: Phantom Libertyis, it doesn’t just serve as an excuse for V to dress up to the nines. It serves as a way for Reed, Alex, V, and Songbird to get back in touch to understand the scope of the situation. What seems like a meeting that sadly sees So Mi saying she wants to stay with Hansen, it really leads for the group of troubled friends planning a way to get the captured Netrunner back.
This involves copying the identities of two Netrunner twins by studying their personalities over a game of Roulette, another classic spy movie staple with some futuristic sci-fi technology adding an interesting twist on what it means to read someone at a social gathering. These disguises will play a huge role in afuture decision V will have to make as Phantom Liberty progresses, adding unknowing weight to the stealth mission.
Of course, asCyberpunk 2077is an action RPG, the night doesn’t end with glitz and glam. Hansen finds out, considering he’s well aware of who Songbird’s affiliates in the FIA are, and Reed and V leave the premises in a shoot-out with Kurt’s personal army. Still, with Songbird’s link to V’s Relic restored after that meeting, there’s nothing stopping the FIA from taking So Mi back. There’s still truths to the situation linking the cast of characters together, though, that makes it clear that Phantom Liberty isn’t as over as players may think it is after this mission.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Libertyis available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
