Chivalry 2brings back all the sword-swinging mayhem and medieval combat that players could want. The in-game tutorial triesits best to onboard new players, but some nuances can only be learned through practice. One of the most essential techniques inChivalry 2is dragging attacks across the screen.

Dragging attacks can give players a slight advantage that can mean the difference between life and death. This technique can be used to hit enemies first by interrupting their swing, attacking around an enemy’s guard, and even striking multiple enemies at once. Use this guide to understand the basics of drag attacks.

Horizontal Attacks

The most important dragging attack is the horizontal swing. Using R2/RT will swing the sword in a large arc to the left. To “drag” the attack, turn the camera along with the arc of the swing. This will shift the camera along with the player character’s torso. When attacking an enemy, turn along with the sword’s arc and get them to the edge of the screen, but not off it. The weapon will always end in the center of the camera, so think of it as “guiding” the attack.

Players can use these attacks to hit multiple enemies if they are lined up. Dragging can also get the tip of the sword to the enemy faster than simply waiting for the animation to get there. If dragging proves to be difficult, try switching to the third-person camera to get a better view of the character’s body during a swing. Holding the attack button will charge up the swing and slow it down. Only charge up when there is an opening; otherwise, the player may be opento receive a counter.

overhead

Overhead attacks can be initiated by pressing L1/LB. These are vicious attacks meant to smash enemies downward.Players can drag these attacksto change the trajectory of the downward swing. If an enemy has a shield, it’s best to drag the attack away from it towards their exposed side.

Stab Attacks

Stab attacks are quick jabs straight at opponents. Use R1/RB to stab. These strikes are good for precisely attacking certain spots on an enemy’s body. Dragging these attacks can makethe player’s sword slip underneathor above horizontal blocks/swings. Using stabs effectively can interrupt enemies starting to swing. There are limitations to every swing to keep some realism. Do not expect to swing a weapon in a complete circle around the character. Practicing each type of swing will let players learn the timing and movements they want to make.
