One of the lesser known facts about Disney’s business, at least to the casual audience, is that most of the company’s money is madenot from movies and TV shows, but theme parks. In fact, one could easily argue that the entire reason we have the Marvel Cinematic Universe under Disney is not because the movies themselves are big money makers (though they are) but because they can easily be turned into big head turning rides at Disney’s assorted parks. The latest film to get the big budget treatment in this regard isGuardians of the Galaxy, which will be the first Marvel themed roller coaster to debut at Disney World.

Just recently at the IAAPA conference (basically a trade show for theme parks) theGuardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewindcoastergot a special showcase for attendees. Not too long after, Disney dropped an official teaser of sorts for fans, showing off how the ride moves around and turns as it’s telling the story ofCosmic Rewind. The carriage is very finely tuned and has the ability to move and spin in ways that will ensure the occupant’s attention is always on the story being told to them, regardless of how they are moving in physical space.

The video is a bit subdued, and perhaps even underwhelming to thosewho just want to see the final product. It takes place outdoors, but the final coaster will be an entirely indoor affair. While nothing has been confirmed, it’s highly likely that the narrative will be told using a combination of projected video segments and environment props in the building, much like other theme parks have taken to doing for their flagship properties. It is currently unknown whether the actual actors will be reprising their roles, though they did forGuardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakoutat Disney California Adventure.

For those who just care about the movies, don’t worry, it’s unlikely that this coaster will contain any info you absolutely need to know for the MCU at large. Officially, all Marvel theme park rides take place in their own separate continuity, though there will probably be many similarities between this coaster and the films. Those who wish to ride the coaster will have to wait for an official unveiling date, as the only current info puts the ride as arriving in 2021, which seems increasingly at risk of being pushed back due to the pandemic.

TheGuardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewindcoaster is currently planned to arrive in 2021.
