Castlevaniaprotagonist Richter Belmont will be available to play in the upcomingDead CellsDLC,Return to Castlevania. The announcement came directly from the developer, likely surprising fans everywhere. The reveal came in the last teaser for theDead CellsDLC and will likely be the last surprise before fans explore Dracula’s castle themselves once again.
Released in 2018,Dead Cellsbecame one of the biggest independent success stories of all time. As of this writing, the game has moved over 5 million copies worldwide which has led to the developer creating a number of expansions to the game. The latest of these is the upcomingDead Cells Return to CastlevaniaDLCwhich is currently set to be released on March 6th. As it turned out, however, the developer had one last surprise for fans everywhere.

Earlier this month the developer confirmed therelease date forDead Cells Return to Castlvaniaand showed off new footage for the upcoming game. In a recent video, the developer revealed thatCastlevaniaprotagonist Richter Belmont would be playable in the upcoming game. Players will have to discover the character in a secret level and will feature a move set similar to what he had inSymphony of the Night.
One of the oldest video game franchises in existence, the series' first installment,Castlevaniawas first released in 1986. Since then the franchise has produced several spinoffs, sequels, and spiritual successors. Currently, it is unclear whether publisher Konami intends to release any new installments, though it did publish theCastlevania Advance Collectionin 2021. However, the upcomingDead CellsDLC seems to offer a genuineCastlevaniaexperience full of battles with Dracula, Death, and all other manners of monsters. Now the developer has added a cherry on top by allowing players a chance to play as one of the series' most iconic characters.
Richter Belmont was first featured in the 1993 video gameCastlevania: Rondo of Bloodas the main protagonist. The character would later appear as a supporting character in its direct sequel,Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Both games are widely considered to be among the best in the franchise andRichter Belmont is set to be the main character in a newCastlevaniaNetflixseries. Before that happens, however, players will be able to take control of the character once again in the DLC provided that they can find the secret level.
Dead Cells: Return to Castlevaniawill be available on August 06, 2025 for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
