The name of the upcoming title has, however, sparked some confusion as the upcoming game shares a name withCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2from 2009. It is possible that Activision is hoping to capitalize on some of the success that the 2009 game experienced as it has been lauded by many to be one of the best games in the series.

While these fans wait for a release date for the upcoming game to be announced, some of them have taken to reminiscing about the originalCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The game featured what manyCall of Dutyfans consider to be the best 1v1 map of all time in Rust. This led one fan to recreate the compact multiplayer map out of LEGO, and the end result was surprisingly accurate as the fan included every structure that the map featured.

Late last year, other fansdecided to reminisce aboutCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2by hopping back into the game one last time. A video was posted on TikTok encouraging those who still hadCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2and a system to play it on, to jump back into the game’s multiplayer for one last hurrah. Needless to say, the video gained a lot of attention, although unfortunately, there were no statistics to measure just how many players decided to log back into the game on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Some other fans of the game decided torecreate one ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s most pivotal moments. The video was an exact recreation of when General Shepherd betrayed Roach and Ghost, although this time the person recording the video was thrown into a swimming pool at the end of the clip instead.

The2022 iteration ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2will seemingly have a lot to live up to, as fans remember the original game through a lens of nostalgia. The game’s story mode will also likely be heavily scrutinized owing to how fondly fans remember the original, which means that Activision will have to bring its “A game” in order to live up to fan expectations.
