Victoria Kord is set to make her DC Universe debut inBlue Beetle. TheBlue Beetlemovie might not be in the same continuity as James Gunn and Peter Safran’s future DCU movies, but Xolo Maridueña will continue to play the titular hero going forward.Blue Beetleis inspired by the comic book hero of the same name. Jaime Reyes (Maridueña) ends up with an ancient alien relic known as the Scarab. When the Scarab bonds with him, it creates a symbiotic relationship and gives him superhuman skills and an exoskeleton that allow him to become a hero.

Victoria Kord is said to be the villain of the movie. She wants the Scarab back, but with the Scarab bonded to Jaime, she can’t exactly just take it from him. The character was initially created for the movie, but she does have a connection to the Blue Beetle character in the comics as well.

Who Plays Victoria Kord In Blue Beetle?

Originally, producers seemed to beinterested in getting Sharon Stoneto play the role of Victoria Kord. In fact, Stone was likely in talks for the role with Warner Bros. because multiple outlets reported her as cast in the role. Not long after those reports, however, that casting proved incorrect. Instead,Susan Sarandon will play Victoria KordinBlue Beetle.

Sarandon has a prolific film career behind her. She’s done everything from comedies to dramas and played heroines and villains in a variety of projects. People wondering how she’ll do in the role of a possibly diabolical supervillain, however, need look no further than Disney’sEnchanted. There, she played the evil Queen Nerissa, a character inspired by numerous evil queens in Disney’s animated fairy tale adaptations. She delightfully chewed the scenery, scared small children, and concocted an evil scheme to murder Amy Adams’ Giselle, so she should be perfect for Victoria Kord.

How Is Victoria Kord Connected To The Blue Beetle?

When the script was first written for theBlue Beetlemovie, Victoria Kord was not aBlue Beetlecomic book villain. Some speculated that she could be a gender-bent version of an existing comic book character. There was speculation that she could have been the big screen female version of Jarvis Kord, the uncle of Ted Kord in the comics who creates indestructible super robots as part of a villainous plot and ends up killed in a battle with original Blue Beetle Dan Garrett. That doesn’t appear to be the case.

Things have changed regarding Victoria Kord’s status as a comic book character. Though she was created for the movie, she’s made her way into comic books as well. She made her comic book debut in February 2023’sBlue Beetle: Graduation Day#2. There, she’s the big sister to the character Ted Kord. Ted is actually the Blue Beetle before Jaime Reyes bonds with the Scarab, following in the footsteps of his teacher Dan Garrett. Victoria Kord is the CEO of Kord Industries, the company the duo inherited from their father. She is a no-nonsense businesswoman who focuses on the research and development branch of Kord Industries.

In her few appearances in the comics, Victoria Kord has tried very hard to get the Scarabs (yes, plural, because multiple Scarabs exist in the comics). She doesn’t think that a teenager should be the one wieldingthe Scarab’s considerable power, which is why she tries to get Jaime’s from him as well. Victoria claims she wants to use the power of the Scarabs to better humanity, but it’s never made clear how she wants to do that.

It appears that Victoria Kord will be following a similar path in the movie, though there is no indication that there will be more than one Scarab in the DCU just yet.Blue Beetlehits theaterson June 07, 2025.
