Wading into battle while being one shot away from death isn’t the most common of strategies inBaldur’s Gate 3,but it can be surprisingly effective if done properly. Such a bold move is made possible by theBlooded Greataxe, a magic weapon made for the bravest of masochists.

It doesn’t take much effort to get this weapon inBaldur’s Gate 3,but it’s very easy to miss, especially for anyone who’s already gotten some of the more powerful weapons in this part of the game. Here’s where to find this two-handed axe and some tips on how to get it as early as possible.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Blooded Greataxe Location

The Blooded Greataxe is sold by Dammon, the Tieflling blacksmith inside the Emerald Grove. The price of this weapon may vary from session to session, though it averages at around 700 gold, which is a lot of money for this stage of the game.

As tempting as this weapon looks, 700 gold is better spent onessentials like healing items, throwable items, arrows, and camp supplies. There are plenty of items to plunder and sell between the Druids' grove and the Goblin camp to the west, and the Blooded Greataxe isn’t going anywhere — not yet, at least.

Where to find the Blooded Greataxe in Baldur’s Gate 3

If players eliminate the goblins and clear the way for the refugees, then Dammon and the other Tieflings will venture out of the grove. This means players will no longer be able to buy the Blooded Greataxe from Dammon until they meet him again much later in the game.

Another possible location of the Blooded Greataxe is in the Goblin Camp. Inside theShattered Sanctum, players can speak with a halfling namedRoah Moonglowto the west of True Soul Gut’s branding altar. She’ll also sell the Blooded Greataxe for about the same price, so players will still have to find a way to get that much money before moving onto the Underdark or the Mountain Pass.

If players rescue Halsin and fight the goblins in the sanctum, then there’s a possibility that Roah will attack the party as well. She and her crew are running an illicit trading operation, so Paladins shouldn’t have toworry about breaking their oathsif they end up killing her. Players can loot the Blooded Greataxe off of Roah’s corpse if they do end up killing her.

The Blooded Greataxe deals 1d12 plus a conditional 1d4 in Slashing damage if the wielder is below 50% HP. This deals roughly the same amount of damage as the Everburn Blade if the condition is met, though the latter deals extra Fire damage without a need to meet any special criteria. However, the Blooded Greataxe does roll only one die, so players only need one good roll to hit max damage instead of two.

Baldur’s Gate 3is available now on PC with a PS5 version coming soon.
