PopularTwitchstreamer Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt weighed in on the ongoing NICKMERCS drama that recently saw Hasan make a controversial joke about Dr Disrespect’s marriage. His comments on the matter arrived shortly afterAsmongold responded to the speculation that he’s moving to Kick.
NICKMERCS recently commented on a video depicting violence against pro-LGBTQ protestors by suggesting those demonstrators “should leave little children alone.” This was widely interpreted as an act of condoning anti-LGBTQ violence, which the streamer denied even as he doubled down on his original comment. Activisionremoved NICKMERCS’Call of Dutyoperator bundle in response to his controversial tweets, prompting Dr Disrespect to uninstallCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2and demand an apology for his colleague. Streamer Hasan Piker then joked about how Dr Disrespect is “more loyal to NICKMERCS having his skin than his own wife,” alluding to his 2017 infidelity scandal.

Dr Disrespect responded by calling him names, whileNICKMERCS said that Hasan is dead to himfollowing that quip. Asmongold has now chimed in on the controversy by acknowledging that while Hasan’s joke was definitely “mean,” he is under no obligation to be “nice” to Dr Disrespect, who “made a really bad decision” when he decided to cheat on his spouse. Hoyt also pointed out that the entire streaming community has been making jokes about the streamer’s infidelity for years now, stating that it’s frivolous to act like Hasan crossed some particularly offensive line here. “It’s just not that big of a deal,” Asmongold opined during a June 20 Twitch broadcast.
NICKMERCS previously pointed to the fact thatHasan joked about Dr Disrespect’s marriageon his wedding anniversary as one of the reasons why he decided to cut ties with the streamer. Asmongold stressed how the banter was aimed at Dr Disrespect’s mistreatment of his wife, calling that “very different” from joking about someone’s spouse. As for the timing of the remark, Asmongold said he seriously doubts that “Hasan was looking at the clock” before consciously deciding to share his mean quip on Dr Disrespect’s wedding anniversary.
Most of Dr Disrespect and Hasan’s followers who took the time to weigh in on the matter have unsurprisingly sided with their preferred streamer in response to the ongoing quarrel. A smaller portion of social media reactions to the squabble labeled it as a manufactured controversy meant to make money for NICKMERCS and his apologists.
Apart from Dr Disrespect,Twitchstreamer TimTheTatman also came in defense of NICKMERCS earlier this month by having Activision pull his ownCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2operator skin in solidarity with his colleague. In a June 11 tweet, the content creator said it “feels wrong” to continue profiting off his cosmetic item if his “friend” cannot do the same.
