Alone in the Darkis morea reimagination of the original gamethat released back in the early 90s. In this game, you will play as either Edward Carnbyor Emily Hartwoodas you explore the Derceto Manor. This beautifully redesigned location is a haunted house type of setting. Within the Derceto Manor, dangers lurk around every corner and there are no small amount of puzzles for you to solve as you seek to solve the mystery of what happened to Emily Hartwood’s uncle.
It isn’t long into this game that you encounter your first puzzle, which is a locked puzzle box. You will need to unlock this mysterious box to continue the story, and here is how you can do that.
Where to Find the Puzzle Box
The puzzle box is encountered early on during the first chapter ofAlone in the Dark. In order to get to it, you must first getinside the Derceto Manor. The front door is locked and nobody is answering. Fortunately, the garage is open. You will navigate through the ground floor, collecting keys and other supplies as you work your way up to the first floor where the entrance is. Once you’ve gained access to the house and met some of the residents, your next objective will be to go up to Jeremy’s bedroom. This is where you will find the puzzle box.
How to Solve the Puzzle Box
While the puzzle box is likely one of the first things you will notice in the room (aside from all the art supplies). Right from the get go, however, you are not able to do anything with this puzzle. It requires all six wood tiles to solve the puzzle, but one is missing.
To remedy this, look for a journal in this room called the “Commonplace Book”. This book contains text written by Jeremy along with some cryptic illustrations, drawings, and notes that will be important later. The sixth wood tile is in this book. Once you have it, all you need to do is insert it into the puzzle box, and you will have everything you need to solve it.
As far as puzzles go, the puzzle box is fairly simple to solve.The six wood tiles must be rearranged to form a symbol of a tree.First you must move the cursor over one of the pieces and then select it. Once a piece is selected, you’ll be able to move it to one of the other spots. When you place one piece on top of another, they will swap places.
Once you’ve moved all the pieces so that they look like the image above, the box will open.
