One of the most consistent rumors throughout this console generation has been about the existence of a remaster of theMass Effect Trilogy. The most recent event that seemed to give some sort of credibility to these rumors came less than a week ago when UK retailer, GAME, seemed toleak the game’s existence through a pre-order list, even allowing players to place pre-orders for the remaster. However, it now seems like players are back to square one as GAME begins canceling these pre-orders.
Early rumors for a remastered version of theMass Effect Trilogydate back as early as 2014. At that time, now-former general manager of BioWare Montreal and Edmonton Aaryn Flynn mentioned that the team at BioWare had discussed the possibility of bringing the trilogy to PS4 and Xbox One. However, it’s clear that this never came to be.

It seems like fans of the sci-fi RPG series are in for more disappointment, as GAME has begun to cancel pre-orders it had previously taken for the remasteredMass Effect Trilogy. The game was listed under the titleN7and even included a release date of June 28, 2025. Players who pre-ordered the game received an email that stated that there had been a communication error and the game “does not exist.”
While many have taken this message at face value, others remain skeptical about whether the retailer may be performing damage control after leaking the game. Fans of theMass Effectfranchise seem to be adamant that2020 is the year for EA and BioWare to release theMass Effect Trilogy Remaster. With other studios at EA displaying successful remasters like theCommand & Conquer Remastered Collection, it doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility that BioWare could be looking to replicate this success.
It’s also worth considering that BioWare may not have the time or resources to work on the remaster. It’s already known that the studio is hard at work developing the latest entry in its classic high fantasy RPG,Dragon Age 4. BioWare has remained firm on its dedication toAnthemwith a major overhaul, despite the game releasing as a critical failure last year.
While console players will have to wait and see if theMass Effect Trilogy Remasterwill actually happen, PC players have plenty of options. Currently, all of theMass Effectgames are available for purchase on Steam with plenty of mods available online for better graphics, as well as quality of life changes likefaster elevators inMass Effect 1.
