Bungie has announced that all the current expansions forDestiny 2are available to play for free until August 30. Gamers will be able to playShadowkeep,Beyond Light, andThe Witch Queenalong with all of their associated quests and content for no cost. The offer is available for all platforms that the shooter is available on, allowing anyone who owns the game to access the old expansions regardless of what they play on. This is a great opportunity for those who have not been able to experience the older content and want to try it out without having to open their wallets.
Bungie did clarify that not allDestiny 2content will be available at no cost. The current Season Pass, the Dungeon Key, the Forsaken Content Pack, and the 30th Anniversary Pack still have to be purchased. However, those who are playingDestiny 2through the Epic Games Storecan pick up the 30th Anniversary Pack for free for a limited time.
It has been announced that there will beno more expansion sunsetting inDestiny 2. During the showcase for the game that Bungie held, General Manager Justin Truman stated that the team has been working on the game engine in the background. It was revealed that the developer will no longer shelve older story campaigns as new ones are released.
There has been no word on whether older expansions that have already been sunset will be returning to the game, though the studio did state that the improvements to the title’s engine will allow older expansions to remain playable for “years to come.” This is great for new and returning players, as it will allow them to experience some key pieces of story content rather than having to go to lore masters to understand what is happening in the game’s plot as new expansions release and older ones are removed.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
