Summary
Poke Balls are the tools used for catching wild Pokemon, but there’s more than just the traditional red and white variant. Great Balls and Ultra Balls are usually preferred when trying to catch a rare Pokemon, and a Master Ball catches anything without fail.Pokemon GOtrainers are given the generic Poke Balls, Great Balls, Ultra Balls, and Premier Balls. However, there are more than just these four types in the mainlinePokemongames.

In games such asScarlet/Violet, different types of Poke Balls are used depending on the circumstances. One type makes it easier to catch a Pokemon at night, while another is better to use at the start of battle.Pokemon GOdoes not yet have the other types of Poke Balls, and it’s unknown if that will change in a future update, but it could benefit the gameplay.
7Nest Ball
There’s a misunderstanding between Level Balls and Nest Balls. A Level Ball’s catch rate is determined by the trainer’s Pokemon level compared to that of the wild Pokemon’s level. A Nest Ball’s catch rate is based ononlythe wild Pokemon’s level. For example, a Pokemon that’s below level 20 will have a higher catch rate than a Pokemon around level 60.
Nest Balls are identified by their green and yellow coloring, which contrasts with the yellow, gray, and red of a Level Ball. Although Pokemon Levels don’t exist inPokemon GO, thechance of catching a Pokemonis determined by their Combat Power (CP). The lower the CP, the easier it is to catch. Having a Nest Ball in-game would be ideal for catching weaker Pokemon or if players need to farm Candy from a particular species.

6Heavy Ball
Not to be confused with the variant fromPokemon:Legends Arceus, the Heavy Ball was first introduced in the Johto Region. This unique ball was first created out of Black Apricorns by Kurt. As its name implies, a Heavy Ball is useful when trying to catch a heavy Pokemon. However, it has a much lower catch rate when used on a lighter Pokemon.

There are plenty of heavy Pokemon inPokemon GO, such as Snorlax or Onix. Using a regular Poke Ball or even an Ultra Ball to catch them can be difficult. Thus, most trainers areforced to toss a Razz Berryto lower the chances of the Pokemon breaking free of the Ball. Having a Heavy Ball inPokemon GOwould make it easier to catch the rarer Pokemon like Snorlax. On the other hand, it’s possible the Heavy Ball has not been addedbecauseof how uncommon heavier Pokemon are in the wild.
5Timer Ball
Before going to confront a Legendary or Mythical Pokemon, trainers are advised to bring along Ultra Balls and Timer Balls. The Ultra Ball is self-explanatory, but the Timer Ball is recommended because of their effect. The more turns that pass in battle, the higher the chances of a Timer Ball succeeding. A Timer Ball used at the start of battle will be as effective as a regular Poke Ball, so it’s best to use them later. Despite this, the Timer Ball’s catch rate caps out after 10 turns.
Some Pokemon inGOarefrustratingly hard to catch- evenwithUltra Balls. Having a Timer Ball that calculates by how many times the Pokemon broke free could make catching easier. Unfortunately, most Pokemon will flee if players keep failing to catch it, meaning there would be no chance to throw a Timer Ball.

4Net Ball
Net Balls are blue Poke Balls with a net-like design. They have the same catch rate as a regular Poke Ball… unless they’re used on Bug-type or Water-type Pokemon. Next to Dive Balls, Net Balls are recommended to have in the storage when going fishing or encountering Pokemon on/in the water.

The Pokemon that appear on the map are influenced by in-game events, but they’re also determined by the weather. During rainy or sunny days,Water-type and Bug-type respectivelyare more likely to show up. These two Types of Pokemon are also fairly common even without the weather boost, making the Net Ball perfect forPokemon GO. Net Balls could be used on Pokemon that players are trying to evolve/farm Candy.
3Dusk Ball
Black with green spots, the Dusk Ball is the ball to throw when catching Pokemon at night or in a cave. Using a Dusk Ball outside the proper setting will make it as useful as a Poke Ball. Therefore, it’s best to save them for nocturnal Pokemon.
The time of day and weather inPokemon GOis influenced by the player’s location in real life. In fact, some Pokemon are incapable of evolving during the day. For mostGOplayers, the catching of Pokemon doesn’t stopjust because the sun has gone down. Many players will catch Pokemon at night, so it would be nice if they had Dusk Balls at their disposal. In mainlinePokemongames, the Dusk Ball is quite expensive for rookie trainers. It’s likely if they were to ever roll intoPokemon GO, the method of obtaining them would require some work.

2Quick Ball
A Quick Ball is one of the most-preferred Poke Balls when needing to catch Pokemon quickly. These have a 4x catch rate when they’re used at the start of battle. From Turn 2 and onwards, their catch rate is reduced to that of a regular Poke Ball. It’s truly an “all or nothing” type of Ball, since it loses its worth (for that encounter) if the Pokemon breaks free. However, when catching a Pokemon that hasn’t been registered to the Dex, the Quick Ball makes swift work of filling out the pages.

For a Quick Ball to be inPokemon GO, they’d probably run into the same problem as a Dusk Ball: They’re expensive (in mainline games), so they’re bound to be rarer than even an Ultra Ball. While they’d begood for catching Pokemon quickly, it’s likely they won’t be added simply because of how ideal their catch rate is. Players also have to factor in that a handful of Pokemon inGOwill flee just as frequently as Pokemon in the Safari Zone.
1Repeat Ball
The Repeat Ball is red and yellow, and just as expensive as a Dusk Ball and Quick Ball. They’re not easily accessible for rookie trainers, but those that are in the later stages of their playthrough may find the Repeat Ball worth buying. These have a higher chance of catching a Pokemonif the Pokemon has already been caught. Repeat Balls are often used when trying to get a Pokemon with a certain Ability, or if trainers just want more than one Pokemon of the same species.
Considering howPokemon GOrequires players to catch Pokemon to farm Candy and XP, the Repeat Ball would be right at home. Certain Pokemon require 100 Candy to evolve, and this can be tedious if that Pokemon has a low chance of spawning. Even when itdoesshow up, that doesn’t mean trainers will be able to catch it. Repeat Balls wouldmake Candy-farming much easierif they’re looking fo a specific Pokemon. Of course, since the Repeat Ball is so useful, it probably wouldn’t be easy to come by inPokemon GOshould it ever be added.
