Summary

The impending release ofCall of Duty: Black Ops 6draws closer, and fans around the globe are eager to see what the game has to offer. Serving as the sequel to 2020’sBlack Ops: Cold War,Black Ops 6will be set during the Gulf Warand will delve into the historical conflicts and conspiracies of the 90s. While a return to the past may be enough to get fans excited, there is still much to be revealed about 2024’sCall of Dutyrelease.

Black Ops 6will put Treyarch in the spotlight yet again, leaving some fans to speculate about what features the game will include. Currently, the game is set to feature a campaign, an online multiplayer mode, Zombies co-op, and a full integration withWarzone. However, the specifics regarding features and content have yet to be confirmed. Here are just some of thethingsCall of Duty: Black Ops 6should include.

Black Ops Cold War

1Linear Campaign Missions

Linear Story Missions Provide A Compelling Narrative

Though not the main selling point for each title,Call of Duty’svarious campaigns have been a major focus for many fans looking for a more narrative driven experience. Though much of the campaigns take a more linear approach in their gameplay,Modern Warfare 3decided to take a rather different approach with its Open Combat Missions. These missions, though granting players an open environment to play in, were poorly received due to ther short playtime, serious pacing issues, and plotlines that seemed to fall flat compared toModern Warfare 2.

These recent criticisms have led fans to want a return to the standard linear missions players are use to, andBlack Ops 6could deliver just that. Fans can already look forward to the direction Treyarch is taking with the latest release, thrusting players back into gritty, real-world historical conflicts. With the latest rumors of a mission centered around the fall of the World Trade Center, along withreturning characters like Frank Woodsand Russell Adler,Black Ops 6could provide a promising campaign that, if executed correctly, could make the game feature the best story yet.

2A Return To Standard Multiplayer Progression

Multiplayer Progression Should Return To Basics

One of the biggest gripes players have with the recentCall of Dutygames is theoverall complexity when it comes to progression. Fans saw this with the debut of Weapon Platforms inModern Warfare 2, which, although offering the benefit of making attachment unlocks universal between different weapons, forced players to level up a certain gun before being able to acquire an attachment for another one.Modern Warfare 3aimed to mitigate this issue withthe debut of Armory Unlocks. While it was definitely an upgrade, it still detracted from weapon levels and progression.

This needless complexity in progression can be confusing for many players, and there is a simple solution thatBlack Ops 6could implement: areturn to standard multiplayer progression. Instead ofModern Warfare 3’sArmory Unlock system making a return, where players have to complete challenges to unlock weapons and attachments, all weapon and equipment unlocks should instead be tied to the player’s level. Additionally, weapon attachments should be unlocked by leveling up each weaponin the game, without requiring players to level up another gun to acquire shared attachments. Doing so would eliminate unnecessary complexity in progression, making multiplayer feel more rewarding.

3Regular Seasonal Content For All Modes

Fresh & Interesting Content For All Modes Should Arrive With Each Season Release

WhileModern Warfare 3strives to provide multiplayer andWarzoneplayers with new maps, weapons, and modes, many fans agree that the seasonal content has been somewhat lackluster. Much of the content seems to be justmultiplayer map variants, remastered maps, returning weapons from pastCall of Dutytitles, and minor additions toWarzone. Pair this with the fact that MW Zombies only sees a new story mission for each midseason update, along with new Aether Rifts, which are essentially just reskinned areas ofModern Warfare 2’sAl Mazrah, and you find that each season does not provide much for players to dive into.

Black Ops 6could change this by providingplayers with regular seasonal content drops for all modes, including, regular 6v6 multiplayer maps for each season,brand-new weaponsnot yet featured in previousCall of Dutytitles, additional round-based maps for Zombieseach season, along withevents and map changes forWarzone. Spreading the content between all major modes inBlack Ops 6will ensure that no particular community feels left out with each season’s update, providing something new for players to experience regardless of the mode they play.

4Original New Maps For Both Multiplayer & Zombies

New Original Maps Provide A Breath Of Fresh Air

Map remakes have been a recurring theme forCall of Dutyfor a while now, each providing players with a nice dose of nostalgia when battling it out in multiplayer or against waves of the undead in Zombies. However, many players feel thatmap remakes and remasters have become rather excessive, especially inModern Warfare 3. At launch,Modern Warfare 3featured 20 maps in total, 16 of which were remade maps from the originalModern Warfare 2. This rehashing of old content for 2023’s premium release didn’t stop there, as maps like Shoot House fromModern Warfare 2also carried over, along with other remakes such as Das Haus for seasonal releases.

MW Zombies also suffered the same fate, with the mode sharing the exact same map asWarzone, making it feel rather barebones for many.Black Ops 6does not have to follow the same route and should insteadfeature a large roster of original maps for multiplayer and Zombies. Though some remakes may be welcomed by fans, such as the almost inevitable inclusion of Nuketown or afitting remake ofBlack Ops 1’sZombies map Five, a premium release should provide players with fresh new content they haven’t experienced before — instead of just repurposing content players have already paid for in the past.

5The Return Of Party Games For Multiplayer

Fun Party Games Like Sticks & Stones and Prop Hunt Should Return

EveryCall of Dutygame features a variety of high-action, competitive game modes in their multiplayer experiences. From Team Deathmatch and Domination to Search and Destroy and Hardpoint, each mode pits players against each other to see who will come out on top. Thoughthese various modes are widely popularand have been featured for many years, players may want to take a break from competitive play and simply dive into more casual fun. This is whereParty Gamescome into play, a featureBlack Ops 6should definitely take advantage of.

Party Games were heavily featured in pastCall of Dutytitles such asBlack Ops 1,Ghosts, and evenModern Warfare Remastered. These fun little modes provided a more gimmicky experience for players to enjoy, as opposed to the standard objectives in Domination and Team Deathmatch. To appeal to a more casual audience,Black Ops 6couldinclude modes such as Sticks and Stones, One in the Chamber, Slasher, and Prop Hunt, each of which could be featured in their own playlist for players looking to kick back and relax, rather than compete against sweats and pro players alike.

6The Removal Of The Loadout System For Zombies

Returning To Basics For Zombies Brings Tension

Zombies has come a long way since its initial debut inCall Of Duty: World At War, and has since evolved from a one-off co-op mode to a multiversal narrative that has become a staple for the franchise. Of course, with the mode constantly changing, new innovations have been made, such asthe adaptation of the Multiplayer loadout system for Zombies. Though this system allows players to use their favorite Assault Rifle or Submachine Gun in round one, others feel that the system is rather unnecessary.

One aspect that made pastiterations ofCall Of DutyZombies so intriguingis how the player would need toupgrade their arsenal as they progress through each map. However, with the inclusion of Killstreaks and the ability to take primary weapons into the first round, much of that tension is no longer present. Inclusions such as Field Upgrades also harm the charm of various maps, as these powerful abilities are available regardless of which map you play.Black Ops 6should definitely go back to basics in this regard, making it so that players will have to earn better weaponry as they progress through the match they are in, instead of giving them strong items right from the get-go.
